Usually Virginia winery weddings lend themselves to the super rustic, but that’s not AT ALL what Melissa & Trent wanted for their wedding. They upped the chic factor with a “light” theme using a color scheme of black, white, and glittery gold. With some rad glitter heels, a champagne tower, an awesome marquee LOVE light, and lots of personal touches, Melissa & Trent had a gorgeous wedding day that was completely their own.
We chose Cana for the gorgeous view, and the flexibility of the space. It was a fancy wedding with all the benefits of the outdoors, but not the inconvenience of it.

Our friend Chris Carlisle married us and did an amazing job. We wanted the ceremony to feel very intimate and special, and it totally lived up to our expectations. We wrote our own vows, and I honestly think this was my favorite part.
My dad was so sweet. Seeing him so emotional was something I’ll never forget.
I wanted my bridesmaids in black because I felt that only a black dress is flattering on everyone and could ever really be reused. So we chose black and white, with a little gold, from there. Plus, we wanted a classic looking event.
The “theme” was light so it made sense to have lanterns as centerpieces. I loved the candlelit glow they gave the reception. The garlands were made by a very talented artist on Etsy- they are now on our Christmas tree!
On their DIY wedding projects:
We made our own directional signs for the event- it was a lot of work! Don’t underestimate the time it takes for these projects! I did the place cards from an idea I saw on Pinterest, and my parents vast collection of corks. My mom put together the table numbers which were both hilarious and sweet. The light-up LOVE sign was made by an Etsy artist and turned out even better than I imagined.
I loved our cake topper- even though our puggle Dart wasn’t there, he was in spirit (and on the cake)
The champagne tower and my dad opening the bottles with his sabre was so over-the-top. Our band, Attraction, was awesome. We asked them to stick to Motown/Oldies and everyone really loved it. It’s the one genre of music that gets everyone up and dancing!
