Today’s beautiful real Washington, DC area wedding comes to us from Jan Michele Photography (courtesy of Two Bright Lights). This modern, grey, pink, and blue wedding was held at St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington, DC and then the reception followed at the Gaylord National Convention Center in the Washington, DC metro area’s National Harbor.

Let’s meet Ruby, Waynne, and their stunning, Filipino-Catholic wedding!

First, a bit about the beautiful couple ~ high school sweethearts (!!):

We met in high school and had a very long yet amazing courtship of 10 years. We became engaged on February 2008, Waynne surprised me with a late birthday trip to Miami, FL. – which of course to my shock turned into a proposal instead (We also decided to carry on the ‘Miami theme/vibe’ into our reception since the proposal took place there) We currently reside in Herndon, VA where we are both working professionals in the Corporate industry.

Between work and home we split our time caring for our 2 year old American Bully puppy named Muggsy, who we rescued from Furever Love about 1 and 1/2 years ago. He has become such an important and special part of our lives. We adore and love him so much!! We still enjoy traveling and seeing the world every chance that we get. Our favorite places to visit are of course the places that we hold dear to our hearts – Miami where we got engaged and Hawaii where we honeymooned.

We still truly love to be surrounded by that same big family and friends that were all there to share in our big day and the rest of our lives with forever and ever.

Ruby & Waynne made a ton of the paper items for their wedding:

As for something we made for the wedding – we creatively designed our save the dates, invites, programs, menus, seating chart with the help of our dearest and super talented family friend, Mariecel Candelaria Daugs. She has an amazing side business called To Have and To fold http://www.tohaveandto-fold.com/

Love the blue and hot pink color scheme!

Also love the striped ribbon around the bouquets!

Ruby had some extra kind words to share about her photgrapher too!

I just want to say how great Jan is, she is truly the best. Hands down – she is our favorite vendor from our wedding! She is so natural with her craft and just so comfortable to work with. I know I have many couples to back me up on this, as she has shot 3 other weddings besides ours that are all within our family and close friends! So great!

A bit about why Ruby & Waynne chose St. Matthew’s Cathedral and the Gaylord at National Harbor, just outside Washington, DC for their wedding venue:

We chose our location and kept it in the area because we knew we wanted to share it with all of our loved ones – and we both come from a very BIG family. Our church was a no brainer – we fell in love with the absolute ornate charm and beauty of St. Matthews Cathedral and also the connection that we had with our priest Father Cauffield. We also knew that we wanted to make our parents and family happy by doing a very traditional Catholic Filipino wedding. It was also a treat to do it inside Washington, DC. As for our reception site – we took both our parents around to look at two sites that Waynne and I narrowed down from a list that we visited. The parents of course chose the Gaylord National as grand and gorgeous as it is. So BIG church, BIG reception site. We were starting to see a trend here…

whoa St. Matthews really is MASSIVE. totally awe-inspiring!

I love the way groomsmen look in grey suits

To go along with the big church and the big reception site … Ruby told me that their wedding party was also huge!

It didnt stop there since we had a whopping 54 person Wedding party! 16 bridesmaids and groomsmen, 3 flower girls, 4 coin/ring bearers, 3 readers, 2 ushers, 6 Secondary Sponsors, and 20 Principal Sponsors. They all consist of both sides of our families and our dearest and closest friends.

Wowzers! That is a HUGE wedding party!

Love the wedding party on an escalator shot!!

  1. I have no idea what a principal sponsor is, but it sounds very official! I am loving the boutonnieres, and now I know that I MUST have a sushi bar at my wedding!
