We had a relaxing weekend, capped off my a much-needed date night at Albi. Everyone in the DMV needs to check out this restaurant. The food was AH-mazing! And the weather couldn’t have been more perfect last night for dining al fresco. My parents are here for another couple days, and then we’ll be gearing up for a short trip to Pittsburgh. Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

From micro-weddings to DIY backyard venues, the idea of what a wedding must be has never been more open and adaptable. The classic line-up of ceremony, drinks, dinner, dancing is also stepping aside to make way for alternative events. If lingering over a sumptuous breakfast in a salubrious setting is your idea of bliss, an intimate brunch wedding might just be the special day for you!

In Great Britain, the celebratory marital meal is referred to as the, “Wedding Breakfast,” regardless of what time of day it takes place and the foods it consists of. We put a twist on this British term by making it a properly posh brunch, including speciality coffees, and spiked or virgin mimosas. Let your guests create their own perfect potion with a self-serve mimosa bar before being seated at the table. These stunning individual cakes are as much a center piece as the lush, romantic florals. Iced to perfection, ensconced on cut glass pedestals, they are sure to be a conversation starter.

The flowers, featuring late spring beauties such as garden grown peonies, foraged foliage, anemones, and ranunculus, tick all of the local, seasonal and eco-friendly boxes, and set the tone for the soft, feminine décor. Gorgeous custom calligraphy and accent pieces combine to create a relaxed, yet opulent atmosphere. All of the femininity in the backdrop, of course, allows for a little edgy individuality in choice of wedding dress, as our bride has chosen a striking black shirt paired with a floaty tulle skirt. Black accents are also echoed through the décor to ground the soft, dreamy pink hues.
