This afternoon’s real Maryland wedding comes to us from one of our favorite featured Washington, DC wedding photographers, ZADesignz (submitted via Two Bright Lights … of course!)

Roselyn & Jeremy threw a beautiful, elegant wedding at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville, Md with gorgeous blue and yellow details. Lucky for you, I also got all the scoop from Roselyn on how they planned and executed their beautiful day (including some awesome DIY wedding centerpieces!) Enjoy!

Roselyn & Jeremy’s Elegant Ballroom Wedding in Maryland

From Zareth:

Roselyn and I have known each other for over 10 years. When she asked me to do her wedding, I was very excited and moved to do it. Jeremy and Roselyn had a long distance relationship. He lived in New York, and she lived in Maryland. Their wedding was yellow and navy blue. I designed their invitations as well. Their decor was elegant and simple. Jeremy dedicated “The Notebook” to Roselyn, and the officiant read a part of the book during the ceremony. Her wedding was fun and elegant.

My MOH gifted me my wedding shoes. They were gold sequined pumps with the cutest bows in front. It meant the world to me since she wouldn’t be in attendance for the wedding. My parents also gifted me my wedding dress, which was absolutely lovely. My only regret is that I knew I would lose weight in the last week of the wedding preparation. I lost a lot of weight and my dress ended up being a bit big on me.

Zareth designed the wedding invitations too – I am in LOVE with the blue envelopes!

Roselyn is gorgeous! Love her pink lipstick!

On choosing their wedding colors:

I wanted a modern fall look. Yellow and orange are my favorite colors, but it would have been too “fall-ish” for a November wedding. We decided to tone it down with a navy look for elegance and use the yellow for a burst of color. The bridal party also looked so great and classy in those colors. The lighting in the reception hall was also a gold lighting, so the different hues tied in perfectly.

We have a discourse prior to the vows and ring exchange. We decided to have two discourses-one for my role as wife and one for Jeremy for his role as husband. My discourse was given by a very close friend of our family and mine personally, who has known me since I was eight. Jeremy’s discourse was also given by a very close friend of his. It was such a blessing to have people that cared for us so much to give us advice and wisdom based on the Bible. Very emotional and personal for us.

Roselyn & Jeremy’s friends and familiy traveled from ALL OVER the world to be at their wedding:

We had friends and family come from everywhere-Spain, Dominican Republic, New York, Georgia, North Carolina, etc. Even though it seemed a bit impossible at one point, but we were so happy that Jeremy’s father was able to come in from Dominican Republic. My oldest sister came from Spain (which was an added bonus since my father was able to meet his grandson for the first time and he hadn’t seen my sister in eight years.)

A story on skyping a wedding … I love how technology can sometimes HELP wedding guests that cannot attend:

My maid of honor and best friend in the entire world lives in France, but due to circumstance beyond our control, she wasn’t going to be able to attend. Thanks to technology, she was able to experience everything via skype! We had friends use our iPhones to skype the ceremony and then we placed the iPhone at our head table at the reception so she wouldn’t miss out. My MOH and her family got dressed up to the nines and danced along with us. It was great to have her there…My bridesmaids knew that this would be super hard for me so the whole wedding process, they really helped me out and did everything they could to make sure I had all the help I needed, something I am eternally grateful for. As for my husband, he also had very close friends in Spain that would not be able to attend so we also skyped the wedding for them, too.

Since we also had a three-year long-distance relationship, a lot of our friends didn’t get to experience the whole courtship. We decided to make two frames (there is a picture) of things we loved about each other (one for him and one for me) and we left it at the entrance of the ballroom. Jeremy also left a book he wrote for me on our first year anniversary (a 13-paged poem in form of a book) for everyone to look at. Needless to say, we had a lot of comments and people crying over it. They loved it! I am glad we did that because they got be emotionally connected to us a bit more while also getting a deeper view in what it was to be in a long-distance relationship for so long.

On picking their venue:

I wanted something simple, relaxed yet elegant. I also loved the soft lighting from the chandeliers–it made everything so warm and cozy. We had 160 guests and they all love to dance, so we definitely needed some space. The venue was also within our budget and their staff was amazing! Incredibly helpful, involved, and professional.

Jeremy’s sister and brother-in-law gifted us our wedding cake. We love chocolate, but knew that we had to be considerate for our guests so we decided to do two layers of chocolate and two others of marble. Cake was delicious and sweet!

DIY Wedding Centerpieces:

I didn’t want all of the centerpieces to be the same (especially in such a big ballroom, it tends to look monotonous.) So what I did was use half flower centerpieces made by some friends and the other half of the tables I used lantern centerpieces and votives to create a “candle/mood lighting” centerpiece. I bought bronze lanterns at Michael’s at 70% off, big yellow candles to insert, and surrounded them by votives and rose petals. Looked so great and created romantic lighting.

Roselyn leaves this advice for future couples planning their wedding:

Advice: I used etsy.com a lot! I bought my veil and ring bearer’s bow ties (which were adorable.) My husband and I had made sure to keep our wedding simple and elegant, but to really focus on what the day was about–our love. We didn’t fuss over small or insignificant details, didn’t have to “have” certain things, etc.

We were very flexible and budget conscious (only spent more on what we really cared about.) Everything went perfectly well on the day of the wedding and absolutely no stress. Nothing went wrong and I think it was because we were organized, balanced, and truly focused on being with each other and our friends and family.

Congratulations Roselyn & Jeremy! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful navy & yellow, Maryland ballroom wedding with us! A special thanks again to Zareth with ZADesignz & Two Bright Lights for making this submission possible!
