Jess & Jeff’s FUN Richmond, VA Wedding at Main Street Station

“Jess and Jeff wanted their wedding to be a party in all senses of the word, and they definitely succeeded!”

That was one of the main words that Andy & I kept coming back to when we started thinking about the type of wedding we wanted to have. We are fun people – we like fun, and the reception is supposed to be a celebration. So, let’s make our wedding FUN!

Ever since then, I have found myself gravitating towards couples that have that similar vibe and vision for their wedding. Fortunately Jen + Ashley Photography submitted this awesomely fun Richmond, VA to me via Two Bright Lights … and yes, it’s a FUN wedding.

From the photographers, Jen + Ashley:

Did they have gorgeous details? Yep! Their wedding was elegant, gorgeous, and so classy. Main Street Station provided the perfect background- historic, classy, interesting and unique. But they also had something which I think can get so lost during the craziness and pressure of planning a perfect wedding…FUN.

Jess + Jeff (or “Jeffica” as their friends affectionately call them) set out with two things in mind for their wedding day. Getting married (duh), and having fun.

About the couple:

Jeff and I actually both went to Rutgers, but we didn’t meet until two years post-undergrad at a mutual friend’s birthday party in New York City! He went to HS senior prom with her (platonically), she was my friend from college…and fate took care of the rest in December of 2006 :)

Jeff and I are always on a mission to let loose and enjoy our time with friends.

About their wedding:

We were determined to make our wedding personal, unique and nothing but fun for our guests.

From our program teaching guests how to pronounce words in Hebrew (pretend like you’re hocking a loogie!)  to cake “shots” instead of a formal wedding cake, we wanted to show everyone that our wedding could be personal and heartfelt but silly and fun all at the same time.

The biggest compliment we’ve received from our friends is that our wedding “couldn’t have been anyone elses…it was so personal and so ‘Jeffica.'”

That, and our playlist of 90s hip hop kept EVERYONE on the floor all night!

Megan & Chris’ Modern Dark Purple Arlington, VA Wedding

I met Megan & Chris in person at the Nonconforming Bridal Fair over a year ago, when Capitol Romance was pretty brand new. Megan was the first person ever to come up to me and say, “I read your blog!”. I think I actually blushed.

Since that day, Megan and Chris stayed in email contact with me – they wanted to do something unique for their Northern Virginia wedding and they didn’t want to break the bank either. I think what the ended up with was perfect – a stunning, modern wedding at the Le Meridien Hotel in Rosslyn, VA with gorgeous, deep purple details.

A special thanks to Andrew Morrell Photography & Two Bright Lights for making this Northern Virginia Wedding feature possible!

Just look at that statement necklace! I DIE!

A few days before the wedding, Megan, Chris and I sat outside at their venue – a large serene patio tucked in between the tallest buildings in the Washington DC metro area. It was sunny and nearly 70 – in early March! While they sipped champagne (the venue manager is a very generous person), we all put our most strenuous faith and hope into changing the fog and rain and dreary weekend weather forecast to reflect the current conditions… When dawn broke on Saturday, March 17, it was indeed foggy. But the fog cleared and our midweek champagne session chased the clouds to reveal a stunning day – which would inform the whole day’s events.

Dorothy & Brandon’s Modern Purple Rockville, MD Wedding

Purple is such a fabulous color – it’s no wonder that it seems to be an absolute favorite among couples for weddings.  Almost any shade of the color is gorgeous, and it looks good on almost any skin tone and hair color. Whenever a purple themed wedding is sent my way ~ I almost always accept it – there is just something intoxicating about it! Such was the case with Dorothy & Brandon’s modern, purple wedding, shot by Darling Photographers [submitted via Two Bright Lights].

Dorothy & Brandon had a gorgeous wedding and incorporated not only a ton of purple details, but fun details from their background & ethnicity as well! Beautiful paper cranes (made from shiny purple paper)  and chop stick favors! There is a lot to love in this Rockville, MD wedding feature ~ and tons of purple details to inspire more purple wedding planners ;).

How they met [the groom’s perspective]:

I was staying in DC over the summer after finishing my first year of law school at Howard University. I was on the board of the DC Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). I decided that I would help volunteer with the setup of the DC Chapter picnic. I got up early and headed out there not really knowing what to expect. I was on the Chicago Chapter board while I was in college, and from previous experiences, I expected there to be nobody my age.

From a distance, I see these two girls head towards the picnic site. I see they’re carrying some stuff, and in one of my less chivalrous moments, I still decide to chat with folks that are already there instead of rushing over asking if they needed any help. One of two was Dorothy, and the other was her sister, Kate.

While talking to Kate and her sister I noticed how easy it was to talk to Dorothy. I learned a lot about her in that short time. I remember thinking how beautiful she was. However, looking back, there wasn’t any intention on my part to try to date Dorothy. I simply was happy to know that there were younger individuals involved in some capacity with the DC Chapter.

When I left the picnic that day, I wasn’t quite sure whether I would ever see Dorothy again. Fourth of July weekend follows a couple weeks later and I was in my apartment on my computer when a chat window pops up on my Facebook account. It was Dorothy asking what I was up to. I told her that I was in my apartment and was going to head out to Dupont Circle to get some ice cream.

Capitol Wedding: Cornelia & Ramzi’s Modern Purple Wedding in Leesburg, VA

This afternoon I have a gorgeous modern, purple wedding to share thanks to Stephanie Leigh Photo Design [submitted via Two Bright Lights]. There are a handful of things that I love about this offbeat Virginia wedding ~ the bride’s bright purple shoes, her short wedding dress, some hand-made purple wedding details, and the fact that this intimate wedding only had 12 attendees outside of the lovely couple, Cornelia & Ramzi!

Cornelia & Ramzi’s Intimate & Offbeat Modern, Purple Wedding in Leesburg, VA

From the photographer:

The wedding took place on a beautiful spring day in April. Cornelia & Ramzi invited their families to share their day. Since Cornelia is from Austria & Ramzi is from Lebanon, the wedding was very intimate with a total of 12 sharing in the day they devote themselves to each other. The ceremony was sweet and beautiful.

The wedding colors were shades of Purple. Cornelia wore a short fun white dress with shiny purple heels, that really set the tone of the day.

love Cornelia’s simple fishtail braid for her wedding hairstyle & that flower!

also really love her bold, purple eye shadow!

the beautifully intimate ceremony setup
