Our inspiration was a peacock, with it’s vibrant colors and feathers. We wanted to portray the use of these colors and a few DIY elements (our feather backdrop) in a natural setting.

Every detail that was used were items we already had, made or were purchased from thrift stores and remade for the look we wanted.

Our desire and hope is to inspire this years Spring and Summer brides with both whimsical and colorful details on a friendly budget.

As we planned, designed and styled this shoot, our inspiration became a peacock, with it’s vibrant colors and feathers. We wanted to portray the use of these colors and a few DIY elements (our feather backdrop) in a natural setting.

The ideas started to flow. We designed a theme for a ceremony, table setting, and a desert table all centered around our vibrant bird.

An amazing DIY feather backdrop, beautiful gold chargers, teal napkins, lovely flowers, peacock inspired desserts, a lavish teal scarf, and natural inspired hair and make-up set the scene for our beautiful bride and groom.

With such a bright theme we knew that a natural, open setting was just what we needed and Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD was the perfect location.

How to Make our DIY Feather Backdrop Tutorial:

Purchase 4 pieces of wood, (1” x 4”) each approximately 7 feet long.

Create a square frame using screws and wingnuts and paint the wood white. Stabilize the frame by screwing wood feet on the bottom of the frame.

Buy duck feathers (we used SmileyMe.com) and individually tape them onto 16 rows of fishing line. Loop the end of each line and on the other put a rubber band. Tack nails at the top and bottom of the back of the frame to attach the strings. The rubber bands on one side allow for flexibility. Decorate as desired!

  1. I love the peacock inspiration, you did a really nice job of incorporating the teals, blue. I love the gold mirror on the chair next to that fabulous cake table. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
