Two weeks in a row with new Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck wedding song suggestions! HOLLA. And this one – well this one just might the most perfect modern first dance song EVER. This song has it all – perfect beat, perfect lyrics, and perfect tempo – all screaming to be a first dance song at your wedding. It’s called “Easy to Love” and it’s by Ivan & Alyosha.

Wedding appropriate yrics:

When the sky turns black
And we know it will from time to time
We’ve been through that
And we came out on top because

You’re really easy to love
You’re really easy to love

And I know you’re good
You know I try most of the time
We’ve been through that
And we came out on top because

You’re really easy to love

Enjoy.

Be back this afternoon with a lovely engagement session. Happy Monday Romancers.

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “Sing Loud” by Alpha Rev

You can thank Pandora for today’s wedding music that doesn’t suck wedding song suggestion. “Sing Loud” by Alpha Rev is anthem-like in it’s full sound and beating bass line. It sounds like it belongs in a movie soundtrack (the likes of Secret Life of Walter Mitty at that!) and so obviously a wedding video came to my mind when I first heard it. It’d also make a powerful processional song, but at the very least add it to your cocktail hour playlist!

Lyrics:

Lay down these promises broken
Take me into your hurricane
While violent clouds roll over
I’ll hold your hand till the colors fade
I’ll be here till your dying day

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: Brett Dennen’s “Sweet Persuasion”

Last weekend Andy & I drove up to NJ to visit my parents and see my mom in a local production of Annie. These NJ roadtrips always give Andy & I time to catch-up on all the tunes he has downloaded, that haven’t yet made it to my ipod ;) Brett Dennen’s most recent album, Smoke & Mirrors, was one of the albums we listened to and I was immediately taken with the first track, “Sweet Persuasion”.

My mind, as it always does, went right to a wedding reception. A sweet couple dancing to this upbeat, modern first dance song, singing the words to each other.

I know you got my number
And I know your spell I’m under
I won’t break this
I got something on you

You know me
And my weakness
And you know my little secret
Still I think that I got something on you

Please tell me that I’m not the only one that visualizes imaginary peoples’ weddings…

Happy Monday Romancers. We’ll be back this afternoon with a sweet engagement session (it’s Monday after all).

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “High Hopes” by Kodaline

So I think one of the biggest surprises from my 2014 reader survey (have you taken it yet?!) was that there are people out there that actually enjoy my Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck song suggestions. This was something I decided to do back before I had even written my first blog post. I did one EVERY Monday in my first year, but as my list got shorter, and no submissions came in, (and little views and comments on the posts) I sort of phased it out as a weekly feature and instead just featured a song when it came to me.

I’ve toyed with the idea of dropping the post all together, but after the survey, I’ll try and keep to at least a 1/month suggestion for those of you that actually like it! And for today, we have “High Hopes” by Kodaline.

Song:

But I’ve got high hopes, it takes me back to when we started
High hopes, when you let it go, go out and start again
High hopes, oh, when it all comes to an end
But the world keeps spinning around

This song has got EVERYTHING for a modern wedding song suggestion. Beautiful lyrics, soft & slower tempo (that slightly builds), and piano! Personally I could see it working as a fun processional song, a modern first dance song, or somewhere else in your wedding ceremony playlist. Or if all else false, add it to your cocktail hour playlist :)

What do you think Romancers – do you love “High Hopes” like I do?

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “You Are the Best Thing”

Up first this chilly Monday morning is a perfect, modern wedding song that could be used for your first dance, wedding slideshow, or another part of your wedding reception! It’s Ray LaMontagne’s “You Are the Best Thing” and it’s just a great, romantic song. The horns in the song give it a sort of big band, vintage feel that I really love. I mean I feel like this song could be in the background of MANY a romantic comedy.

Wedding perfect lyrics:

Oh because, you are the best thing
You are the best thing
You are the best thing
Ever happened to me

What do you think Romancers? First dance worthy? Or maybe another part of your reception? We’ll be back this afternoon with a DC engagement session!

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “5 Years Time” by Noah & the Whale

Kicking off today with a Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck post courtesy of Noah and the Whale. I just love their song “5 Years Time” and considering the sunshine that I woke up to this morning, it’s a perfect one for the day or I think for a beach wedding – since the song mentions sun a good amount :) I think it’d make a cute first dance song or would be a great addition to your cocktail hour playlist!

Wedding appropriate lyrics:

Oh well I look at you and say
It’s the happiest that I’ve ever been
And I’ll say I no longer feel I have to be James Dean
And she’ll say
“Yah well I feel all pretty happy too”
And I’m always pretty happy when I’m just kicking back with you.

Give it a listen and check back in a few for an AWESOME DC engagement session at Union Market!

Today’s song is from the new artist, Wild Cub, with their song “Thunder Clatter” and I think it would make a great addition to your cocktail hour playlist OR would be a great upbeat recessional song.

Wedding appropriate lyrics include:

Waiting on love to call
Hidden in the fall

I hear it call in the center of it all
You’re the love of my life, the love of my life

Blogging this week, Vermont, a Song, & a Promise

In case you missed it Romancers, I am currently taking a week off to enjoy the beautiful sights, sounds & beauty of Vermont, at a lake house on lake Champlain. You can imagine that I am currently staring at something that looks like this:

[via rue12]

I will be back in a week and with that I promise a brandy-new giveaway to make it up to you all, for being away from the blog for a week!

ALSO. Because it’s Monday, I thought I’d leave you with an AWESOME non-sucky wedding song to jump start your week. We recently saw American Authors at the Rock and Roll Hotel in our ‘hood, opening for The Mowglis. And they were really awesome. One of their songs in particular made me think of a wedding day, it’s called “Best Day of My Life” <- clearly appropriate.

So while you might not be able to use it in your ACTUAL wedding day (though it’d be great for a cocktail hour mix), I highly recommend listing to it on repeat the MORNING of your wedding, getting you seriously pumped for what really will be the best day of your life. Enjoy.
