I’ve blogged a ton of weddings in the 3+ years I’ve been running this blog. Some really stick with me, where I can quite vividly call back from memory the images I laid out and the details I typed. This will be one of those weddings. Mostly because of the emotions that you can seriously FEEL coming out of every. single. image that Leo Druker Photography captured. But the natural, laid-back, details also help. Walkers Overlook, a wedding venue in Maryland, gave David & Garrett that a rustic, homey feel they were going for and their wedding vendors just executed the overall wedding day perfectly.

This, my engaged friends, is why you hire vendors that are not only professionals, but are a match to your personality, style, and nuances. Because then they can create a wedding day like this – one that emanates you and your partners’ feelings, desires, and emotions. I seriously feel like I KNOW these two people just from their wedding pictures. And I sure as hell wish I could have been in attendance at this wedding! But enough from me, more from Leo, David & Garrett.

We each had our suits custom made from My.Suit (www.mysuitny.com). We wanted to “go,” but not “match.”

We opted to not have a specific color palate, nor did we intentionally choose any particular colors. We are inspired by natural elements and asked that the decor reflect the time of year (October). Our one main request was that the florals/decor have an unfinished edge and they used stone, metal, and glass to maintain that feeling.

On their venue:

We wanted a space that felt like it could have been our home and had a rustic edge. They have a vintage car which they allowed us to use as a bar at the reception.

Both parents walked the grooms each down the aisle. Our friend Laura and her boyfriend John played “Return to Pooh Corner” on the Cello and Guitar during the procession. The song was a surprise to Garrett and has significant meaning from his childhood.

The officiant, also a dear friend of the couple, is a comedian and actor. “we trusted her to represent the sentiment of the moment while insuring a light feeling.”

Wedding Party didn’t wear matching outfits, and we had mixed genders within. It happened that each persons outfits fell within the same color palate after shopping around and came together organically.

All the DIY details:

– Menu chalkboard/Greeting chalkboard, which I wrote on the day of the wedding.
– Designed a “logo” for the wedding of a tree with a swing on it. Used that image on our website, invitations, menu, etc. for cohesiveness.
– Table numbers/Table Menus

– Table assignment board with clothespins.
– Invitations/Save the Date.
– All luggage/desk lamp/Brown and Blue Glass/Crockpots collected and provided by us.

– Home crafted beer.
– Postcard “guestbook”: Featuring postcards from Frederick, MD as a nice memory.

-Groom did all the girls’ hair.

Having a caterer that allowed us to create our own menu was important, and they helped us to pick all of our favorite foods. All their food is locally sourced which matched the farm venue. We didnt’ have cake (we don’t really like cake), but passed dessert instead (Shiraz Chocolate Mousse, Pumpkin Maple Cheesecake). We were prepared to have a fire pit with smores, but no one wanted to leave the dance party!

Their thoughts on Leo:

Best photographer ever. Period. Captured every special moment.

We wanted the reception to grow into a massive dance party. We essentially took our gym mix (aka songs that get us pumped) and Bruce took it to the next level.

Yes. Yes he did….
