Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “You Are the Best Thing”

Up first this chilly Monday morning is a perfect, modern wedding song that could be used for your first dance, wedding slideshow, or another part of your wedding reception! It’s Ray LaMontagne’s “You Are the Best Thing” and it’s just a great, romantic song. The horns in the song give it a sort of big band, vintage feel that I really love. I mean I feel like this song could be in the background of MANY a romantic comedy.

Wedding perfect lyrics:

Oh because, you are the best thing
You are the best thing
You are the best thing
Ever happened to me

What do you think Romancers? First dance worthy? Or maybe another part of your reception? We’ll be back this afternoon with a DC engagement session!

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: Jack’s Mannequin “Amelia Jean”

As per usual, I am late to blogging on this Monday morning. I am sure you are sick of my apologies at this point – but MAN I just couldn’t bring myself to blog last night. Andy and I drove to Penn State and back in one day on Saturday (8 hours!) and I forget just how exhausting that is. Yesterday was filled with couch lounging, football over-stimulation (red zone is just INSANITY people), and of course, eating WAY too much food. I didn’t even go to hip hop class either.

ANYWAY. Another big thing happened this past week that some of you may not care about, but I do – one of my favorite bands is calling it quits. Jack’s Mannequin was the second project by Andrew McMahon (the former Something Corporate singer) and they have decided to call it quits. I HATE when bands I love break-up. I mean, I realize there are a number of reasons and obviously they can’t stay together just for ME. But still – realizing that there will be no new music from a favorite band just sucks.

So for today’s non-sucky wedding music suggestion, I figured I would share a Jack’s Mannequin song off their most recent album, People and Things. It’s got a beautiful melody and poetic lyrics that I am sure you will all enjoy.

Song

Lyrics:

Amelia Jean, you went and married a solider
I swear I never meant to leave you in the rain
So I’ll come back to take the weight off your shoulder
Amelia Jean, come on, let’s chase the train
Come on

I think it could totally be appropriate for a modern father-daughter dance song (especially if your name is Amelia!). It would also make for a great addition to your cocktail hour playlist.

Happy Monday Romancers! Hope to get a cute engagement sess up for this afternoon (which I realize is now in under 30 minutes …. ugh!)

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: Imagine Dragon’s “It’s Time”

I admit that I am actually a bit ashamed of how long it’s been since the last time I did a “wedding music that doesn’t suck” post. I apologize, but also need to admit to you and myself, that thinking of alternative music song suggestions every week was a way bigger task that I had originally thought, once I had exhausted my playlist.

So apologies aside, I have a great alternative wedding song suggestion for you today from Imagine Dragons called “It’s Time”. The music itself is powerful, very moving and the lyrics are totally appropriate for an alternative wedding ceremony or great addition to your cocktail hour playlist.

I don’t ever want to let you down
I don’t ever want to leave this town
‘Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

I’d really love to see someone use this song as a modern processional song [please let me know if you do]. I can just imagine the doors opening and the bride walking down the aisle as the chorus reigns in with “it’s time to begin, isn’t it?”.

Hope you all enjoy this upbeat, modern wedding song suggestion to get this week started!

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “Friday I’m in Love”

Happy Monday Romancers. Another start of the week begins and we are kicking things off with The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love” as today’s Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck, modern wedding song suggestion!

“Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
it’s Friday I’m in love”

I know this song is a romantic comedy staple, but I just don’t care. I LOVE this song and it’d make for a perfect addition to your cocktail hour playlist, or even the perfect alternative rock song for your wedding ceremony.

Check back this afternoon for a lovely Washington, DC area engagement session from Michelle VanTine Photography!
