Michael & Marissa’s Washington DC Engagement Pictures in Chinatown

A long long time ago we re-launched this little blog here and to celebrate, Stephanie Leigh Photo Design gave away an engagement session and coffee table book to one lucky couple. Michael & Marissa were that lucky couple and we are so excited to get to share their engagement pictures and love story here on the blog today! I love that their love story includes New Jersey (being a Jersey girl myself) and their proposal story is just too cute. I’ll let them take it from here.

How They Met:

Marissa grew up in New Jersey but was a frequent visitor to the northern Virginia area throughout her childhood as she visited close family friends. Without these visits she might never have applied to any Virginia schools and thus would’ve missed out on meeting Michael.

Michael grew up in Falls Church, Virginia and ironically spent his formative Christmases and summers trekking to New Jersey where his father is from and grandparents lived for many years.

Michael and Marissa had many mutual friends at school but their path didn’t really cross until they shared a business class junior year. They became quick friends and Marissa finally began to take a hint as she departed for Christmas break that year with a dozen roses that were left in her dorm room. Nightly phone conversations over break led to an official first date on Valentine’s Day and here we are almost eight years later in the place where it all started, celebrating happily ever after.

How they met:

We met over six years ago quite serendipitously during a study abroad trip to Jordan. We spent the summer as bioarchaeologists excavating tombs and falling in love. We kept our romance alive through two years of long distance (Adam went to school in NC and Michelle in MA) before moving to Charlotte, NC and finally relocating to the DC area for grad school and our current careers in the government.

Raheem & Kyra’s Downtown Washington DC Engagement Session

Well hello there Monday and this winter weather we are having in DC! I hope everyone is staying warm and getting ready for the BEST holiday of the year! To me, there really is just not much better than a day centered around family, food, and football. It’s everything that makes Christmas awesome without the stress of buying presents, which is a total plus in my book! So let’s get this (short) blogging week started with a little DC engagement session from Terri Baskin Photography.

How they met:

“We both work together and we were always friendly with each other and spoke when we saw each other. One evening after work i went to my car and had a flat tire.  I called and waited for someone from maintenance to come and fix it but while i waited Raheem came out of the building and offered to change my tire.  At first I said no thank you, but he offered again so I agreed to let him change the tire. He told me that my payment to him would be a dinner date. We went out to dinner a few nights later and it was interesting due to his sense of humor.  We started dating in February and he proposed over the summer. ”

Chelsey & John’s Columbia Heights Engagement Pictures in Washington DC

This afternoon’s DC engagement session has some of my favorite things! An adorable couple, a true DC-romance love story, the CUTEST dog, and the choice to take engagement pictures in their neighborhood where they met have have fallen in love! Photographer Noe Todorovich shares, “Chelsey and John originally met at Columbia Heights Day in 2010 and also have been living in that neighborhood for a while now. For the shoot, we incorporated the neighborhood and some murals and mosaics…and their recently adopted precious pup! I loved how they worked in their roots!” Let’s get this feature going!

How they met:

From her POV: John and I met at Meridian Pint during Columbia Heights Day 2010. John was representing DC Bocce League and I was there helping sell Columbia Heights Bar Crawl cups with a friend after being stood up by a blind date. John was incredibly sociable and charming…and even bought me a sympathy drink for having been stood up!

From his POV: We met at Columbia Heights Day in 2010 — she was an event volunteer and I was running bocce games there. I immediately thought she was very funny and easy to talk to. Plus, she was extremely upbeat for someone that had just been stood up on a blind date (all good things).

Hanna & Jamison’s Washington DC Engagement at Union Market

I am probably a bit biased about today’s DC engagement session. For one, the photographer, Porter Watkins Photography, is one of our hand-picked photography vendors in our DC wedding vendor guide. For two, the couple chose my own neighborhood as the location of their engagement session – Northeast DC’s Union Market!

But, bias aside – this engagement session is kickass. Porter got some seriously awesome shots of Hanna & Jamison around both the newer and older parts of the market. And Hanna & Jamison are just a super rad couple. Check out their DC engagement session and short & sweet love story below!

How they met:

We met through friends in 2007 and fell in love over music, cooking, exploring DC, and traveling the world. We love to bike, hike, hit up local farmers’ markets, and watch Law & Order with our awesome cat, Sputnik.

I really hope that cat name is a wink to Salute Your Shorts.

Alexis & Jon’s Washington DC Engagement at the National Gallery of Art

Happy Friday! We did it! Another week has come to a close and it’s FINALLY starting to feel like Fall AND football has officially started. So really, I can’t get much happier at this point. ;)

To close out the week, we have a super fun & adorable couple with their DC engagement at the National Gallery of Art thanks to Sandra Sitar Photography (submitted via Two Bright Lights). Alexis is a NJ native (Jersey Girls!) and Jon is from Iowa. They attended the same school (Dartmouth) but didn’t cross paths until a music festival in rurual Tennesse! Scroll on down to see all their awesome engagement pictures AND read more about their love story!

Alexis & Jon’s Washington DC Engagement Session at the National Gallery of Art

How they met & their love story:

Alexis writes “Our respective Dartmouth friend groups serendipitously camped just a few sites away from each other at Bonnaroo.  Someone from my group recognized someone from Jon’s group.  We were introduced, our glassy eyes locked and…We met back up 2 weeks later on campus after awkward cafeteria flirting.” This was early 2003.

Jon writes “We met, kinda liked each other, and then when we got back to campus, I sought her out and my charm clearly won her over…for like 6 months”.  The next 6 years were followed by friendship which held through joint moves to DC, Jon’s move to Boston for law school, Alexis’s move to London for grad school, and years spent in mismatched time zones.

Jon says he “had an epiphany in the fall of 2009 that she’s kind of the best thing that ever happened to me. Call it re-falling-in-love.”

^AWWWWWWWWW!

Matt & Katie’s Georgetown Bookstore Engagement Session in Washington, DC

One Comment

I really am a sucker for bookstore engagement pictures! I just love the way the bookstores frame the couple and backdrop a bunch of mismatched stacked books, with a multitude of colors, gives the engagement pictures. It also helps though when the couple is SUPER adorable and the images are beautifully captured! Oh and their love story – it’s adorable, involving the adventures of a squirrel and a fake goblin king.

I mean, obviously these are my kind of people :) A special thanks to Birds of a Feather Photos for submitting this beautiful DC engagement session via Two Bright Lights!

Matt & Katie’s Georgetown, DC Bookstore Engagement Session

How they met:

Katie and Matt met in DC where they work together as technical writers. Although their office is small, they somehow managed to go several months with little interaction. A situation that changed completely one day when Matt ate lunch with a squirrel named Jerry. Based on this chance encounter, Matt created an entire world revolving around Jerry and his fight against the Goblin King; he took Katie on secretive quests and adventures throughout DC, planting paper goblins in suspicious locations and making regular visits to Jerry for squirrel updates. Along the way a friendship formed during these outings, filled with late night discussions and car rides full of inquisitive chatter.

Soon, their friendship turned into a fun and adventures romance, brimming with laughter and surprises. This romance led to where they are today – planning for a wedding and a lifetime together, and knowing it will be an adventure they’re both excited to embark on.

Capitol Romance: Jeff & Tracy’s Stylish Washington DC Engagement Session in Georgetown

This little dose of astonishing beauty comes to us from Abby Grace Photography. This DC engagement session is one part love, one part fashion, and a whole lotta parts of beautiful people! I feel like Jeff & Tracy just walked out of a J.Crew magazine!

But beyond their physical beauty, their love story was another reason I was attracted to this feature – I am a SUCKER for long love stories and for Jeff & Tracy, that was the case. It took them 7 years to get engaged and another year to start the wedding planning process, but they both knew how their story would end, even if they both vowed they would never get married!

A special thanks again to Abby Grace Photography & Two Bright Lights for making this beautiful DC engagement feature possible.

How they met:

A guy walks into a bar…little did he know he’d meet someone that had lived her whole life just 20 minutes away from him, who happened to be looking to meet someone as kind (and single) as him.

Luckily, for the girl in this story, the guy was stood up on what was supposed to be a first date with another girl. So, fate saw it fit for the two to huddle up in a corner of the bar and talk for the next few hours. He made her swoon when he gently put his hand on the small of her back as he leaned in and asked her over the noisy room, if he could call her sometime. They had their first official date about a week later on Jan. 7, 2005 and talked for several more hours late into the night, closing down two restaurants and a bar. They began a long-distance relationship while the girl attended her last semester at James Madison University and a few trips to visit each other later, they both realized their search was over.

Capitol Romance: Matthew & Jannel’s Georgetown, DC Engagement (with Cupcakes!)

“From the minute I laid eyes on her I’ve wanted to be with her. Jannel is my best friend, I love her unconditionally and am the happiest man on Earth to have her by my side. ”

Whoa – how is THAT for a love story anecdote, to get your Monday going?! There is SO MUCH to love about Jannel & Matthew and their beautiful Georgetown, DC engagement session from Photo LadyLove. Their love story is beautiful and the images from their engagement are even more visually stunning, set against the beautiful Georgetown backdrop.

But enough from me, I’ll let Jannel, Matthew & the beautiful images speak for themselves! [Submitted via Two Bright Lights]

Matthew & Jannel’s Georgetown, Washington DC Engagement Session

ENGAGEMENT

From the Bride to be on their DC engagement shoot

I wanted to have our engagement photos in Georgetown, DC because I love it there! It’s historical, it looks like an old town and it looks like something from the movies. The first time I went to VA to visit Matt, he asked me to be his girlfriend.

He took me to DC and we walked around all of DC, saw all the monuments, cuddled on the train, it was snowing and we held hands the entire time! It was really romantic to me. So VA and all it’s historic sights and old towns all remind me of our courtship.

ENGAGEMENT

How they met:

Matthew and I met in the most random place. I worked as a receptionist at a Candlewood Suites Hotel on the weekends to make some money for school, and on my second weekend working there I saw him. I was instantly attracted to him and my eyes followed him across the lobby!! Throughout the time I was at work during that weekend he attempted to get my number by calling from his room because he was too shy, and he got rejected.

As he was getting a late check out on Sunday afternoon, he told me he was checking out late in hopes to see me again. My heart melted right then and there. And we have talked everyday since!! Our wedding website has the full on details!
