“Every single aspect of my wedding was so hand tailored with such love. It was completely beyond amazing. Everything from my catering, my decorating, my ceremony was all done by people that I know and love.”

We’re getting back into the swing of things for 2015 with our first real Virginia wedding feature of the year. Kelly & Tree planned a completely DIY wedding created entirely by themselves, their family, and friends. And they did it in some SERIOUS vintage styling. These bridesmaids dresses are ones to remember (though unfortunately no longer for sale on Etsy) – they are GORGEOUS. And Kelly ROCKED her vintage hair & dress. Check it out!

Each of the paper flowers I made had button centers from my mom’s button jar so each one came from a coat or sweater that some one in my family wore at some point. They are made out of scrap paper books which are comprised of several different patterns in coordinating colors so it made it really fun and easy to mix and match while still having a really cohesive feel. I went with dusty blue and yellow because I’m not really a fan of traditionally fall colors.

We wanted to use the freight shed in Yorktown because of its beautiful view of the river its also where we took our engagement photos. Its the beach we spend our summers at. It was very important to me to not spend an arm and a leg on anything I love the idea that something doesn’t have to be expensive to be beautiful. my husband is a local police officer and I am a bar manager so neither of us wanted to break the bank. I got my dress and shoes off of ebay! One of my favorite details is a vintage mirror from the 1920 that I found at the habitat for humanity store for $20 a friend of mine painted it with the blue that matched our colors but distressed it so the original gold came through and repurposed into a frame to hold my seating assignments.

This Spring Northern Virginia wedding at Top of the Town is REALLY getting me in the mood for pastel colors and sunshine. I LOVE the mix of teal and pink in their color design and the couple kept things eclectic with a mix of understated vintage details. Plus they did their first dance to a Red Hot Chili Peppers song – how awesome is that? Check out Christine & Phillip’s DIY Spring Wedding feature. We included pastel colors everywhere to deliver a vintage kaleidoscope effect , an eclectic mix of glassware for the fingers to touch, which we’ve also recently noticed to be popular in trendy speakeasies, and pink up lighting that bridged classic ambiance with views of a global city.

Capitol Wedding: Sarah & Steve’s Offbeat, Alternative Maryland Baseball Wedding ~ Part 2

As promised, we are back with Part 2 of Sarah & Steve’s awesomely offbeat Maryland wedding, which took place at Ripken Stadium! The ceremony in Part 1 dazzled us with custom vows and the groom entering from the bullpen, to ACDC. Part 2 showcases the couple’s awesome detail skills with vintage baseball playing cards as escort cards, big league chew, and more!

Sarah & Steve’s Offbeat, Baseball-Themed Maryland Wedding ~ Part 2

The bride Sarah shares her thoughts on mismatched groomsmen and mismatched bridesmaids attire:

Clearly, this was not a black tie affair so we tried to keep things quirky and fun.  Our groomsmen all wore mismatched grey suits and black chucks.  We had our two best men’s chucks embroidered with “Best Man” and my husband’s said “Groom.”

I still wanted romantic elements to the wedding though.  My husband allowed me to use the soft colors I love so I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses in the shades of pale pink, cream, and tan.  All but two of the dresses came from Modcloth.

love these adorable, fun baseball-inspired wedding party pictures! bridesmaids blowing bubble gum and the groomsmen pouring gatorade on the groom. awesome.

Clearly the entire bunch was having a TON of fun with their wedding party pictures ~ I don’t blame them. Plus, I always feel that natural laughter like this, makes for much better pictures than the posed stuff!
