Let’s Get Personal ~ Our Family Trip to Disney World!

A couple weeks ago [bah, I can’t believe it was already a couple weeks ago!] my entire family [parents, 4 siblings, and 2-husbands] went to Disney World. We had an absolute blast. So I though, why not share some of the fun here for a “Let’s Get Personal” post :)

It all began when we arrived at the airport in Orlando. From the airport we had tickets to board Disney’s Magical Express. Oh MAN was I getting pumped!

I shared a instagram pic of Andy & I on the bus back when it was happening:

We arrived at our hotel, Disney’s Saratoga Springs, and soon discovered it was literally across the water from Downtown Disney!

We spent a TON of time walking back and forth to Downtown Disney, for food, drinks, & overall just good times.

On one such trip over, my brother couldn’t resist grabbing my mom’s hand and my little sister was there to capture THIS picture. Which cracks me up, every time I see it!

One of our first trips was to Magical Kingdom – and there really isn’t a more magical place on Earth [except for Hogwarts of course].

Magic Kingdom is awesome because you can find chocolate covered Mickey Mouse rice krispy treats that are LITERALLY the size of your face.

Literally.

At the Magic Kingdom, you can also dress up like a Pirate – no matter how old you are.

See: Andy, as Captain Jack Sparrow.

One of the really cool things we did on this family vacation, was get tickets to a VIP dessert on Tomorrow Land’s balcony. Only about 50 people are allowed for the dessert each night, and they give you a spectacular view of the Magic Kingdom’s fireworks display.

The display includes not only amazing fireworks, but one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen – pictures & graphics projected onto the castle. This picture doesn’t do it justice, at some points in the night the castle was polka-dotted, had pictures of people from the park that day displayed, and many MANY other awesome projections.

And of course, thanks to Youtube & the millions of people that would rather watch the show from their phone than with their eyes [yes, I am making some opinionated, societal commentary there] if you want to see what i mean, check this video out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwnDPj40TRE

From there we took some time to celebrate my mom for Mother’s Day; which she dubs “the most sacred of days”. Happy Mother’s Day Mom! [my older sister, younger brother, me, my mom & younger sister]… I look like I’m talking … naturally …

We did find some downtime at our hotel to just hang out with the family. And naturally take goofy pictures like this one:

Ok, this next shot is of another one of the REALLY COOL things we did on our trip – we had dinner with an Imagineer! We met Dustin and got to ask him all sorts of questions about what it’s like to plan projects & dream up ideas [anything from how to disguise a trashcan in Animal Kingdom, to building an entire new part of a park] for the most magical place on earth.

It was a REALLY really cool dinner & I’d highly recommend it to anyone going to Disney with a more adult crowd!

Let’s Get Personal: Office aka Capitol Romance Headquarters Makeover

Another personal post to start Tuesday! If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, then you have probably already seen some of the rumblings from our office re-do [and by office I mean, Capitol Romance Headquarters … which Andy lovingly allows me to call our office].

When we moved into our house last June, everything had already been re-done and the house was move-in ready. But we brought a lot of our old furniture from our old condo and have been attempting to update our house with some more long-term, permanent changes that compliment our updated style preferences. Most of you have probably seen the exposed brick project we have almost completed [if not, I will be sharing more of this project on one of my favorite wedding blogs ~ Fab You Bliss ~ in the upcoming months!].

Our style used to be fairly modern [think: IKEA] but we have been moving into a more industrial, rustic feel [think: West Elm or Anthropologie]; throw in the fact that the headquarters is centered around my graffiti art sign, and well – you only have so many options to style a smaller, office-like room when graffiti is your main focus point :)

So the first thing we did was paint the room last weekend. We went to Frager‘s set on buying the powder blue color that JP used in the artwork. But then I saw this:

Benjamin Moore’s Teal Blast … annnnnd I was smitten.

Next came the big purchase that we made this weekend: a tanker desk. Thanks to Prince of Petworth’s “Phenomenal Finds” feature, we saw this listing for a vintage 1950s tanker desk out in Chantilly. The price was right, the seller was willing to deliver … getting it up the stairs was another story though:

That’s what spackle and paint is for right?! But – last night my amazing husband cleaned the desk up and setup our iMac on it. Isn’t she lovely?! Apologies for this phone picture … one of these days I will get a proper camera:

So what’s left? Well we have some ideas. The next being this black chandelier that will be the new light fixture:

[ from Amazon]

And a Black & White Chevron Chair is pretty much a MUST-HAVE to us as well:

[from Target]

From there I don’t really have anything else solidified. We wanted to get some sort of old wood to make one long shelf across the wall where the desk is. We are hoping to find one at Community Forklift this upcoming weekend!

Something like this, but way thicker and more rustic:

I know I want to frame and hang some of my blog stuff, like the posters from our Bridal Inspiration shoot and need to have my bouquet out somewhere too! But I am super stuck on a few things:

1. Some sort of end table next to the desk that can hold our printer

2. Shelving ideas

3. A chair!

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated! What do you think of Mine & Andy’s office aka Capitol Romance Headquarters makeover so far !?

Let’s Get Personal: An Ode to My Husband

So, I’ve been flirting with the idea for a while now … to start including some more ‘personal’ posts on my blog. I still want to be a creative & offbeat resource for weddings in the Washington, DC area, but I also want to share some of the awesome things that come with being married [because isn’t that the point of getting married anyway!?].

If you follow me on Twitter [moreso than Facebook] than you’ve already gotten a glimpse at the things that make my life churn, namely: the H St. Area/Trinidad Neighborhood, Penn State Football, the NY Giants, sharing other wedding vendors’ giveaways, posts, & inspiration, my mini dachshund Sadie … and my husband.

Which leads me into my first “Let’s Get Personal” [which I of course, in my head, am singing to the music of “Let’s Get Physical“] post. I’ll try and keep these to once a week, or every other week, and see how it goes from there. I’d appreciate any feedback! So here it goes…

I love my husband. He is awesome. He came with me this past weekend to Borrowed Event. But, not only did he come with me, he hung my banner, strung the heart garland, helped another vendor with hanging something in her booth, AND actually manned my booth for an hour while I went to talk with the ladies of Bayside Bride & United With Love.

Here is Andy manning my booth:

And prior to the show, he helped me cut out over 200 felt hearts by hand, helped me set up my booth more than once, and packed up [and unpacked] the car for the show :) So yeah – he is kind of awesome. I couldn’t do both a full-time day job and Capitol Romance without his support and find it pretty sweet that he is willing to attend a wedding show and talk about ‘his wife’s wedding blog’.

I think one of the things society tends to disregard with regards to a successful marriage, is how important it is to be “partners” in things. To help and support each other in your endeavors, even if it’s something that you might not want to do. Aka, driving to the airport late in the night to pick up Andy from his business trips, or watching your wife make a fool of herself dancing at a bar, but standing by supportive anyway.

[yes, that is some fist pumping that you see there]

I love my husband for so many reasons ~ and though it might sound mushy, he really is someone that I consider to be one of my best friends. No one else can understand or finish movie/TV quotes I reference like he can. No one else has the patience he has [and trust me, living with me – you’d need it :)] and no one else quite compliments my odd, erratic, and rather strong personality.

Sometimes I think it’s the fact that we have grown up together [cue “awwws”], as yes we are high-school sweethearts. Don’t believe me … well lucky for you, I uploaded one of our Prom pics for your viewing pleasure:

Just look at that chin strap! [ps-he is going to kill me for sharing this picture].

In summation, I have considered myself to be extremely lucky to have found a partner that is so loving, selfless, caring, and totally boss. He is the cheese to my macaroni [yes, that last part is from Juno].

I hope everyone in this world gets to find a partner that is their perfect compliment ~ life really is much more enthralling when you have someone with you along for the ride.
