I love blogging sessions “out of season” because it makes me remember just how lucky we are to actually have seasons in Washington, DC. Everyone is ‘mourning’ Phil’s prediction this morning of 6 more weeks of winter, but I’m sitting here thinking of a cool crisp Fall morning instead thanks to Bradley & Jamilyah’s lovely DC engagement session. Plus this “winter” we’ve gotten in DC this year has been PATHETIC so far. Cold rain is not winter people. Give me all the snow.

Alright let’s get this week going. Happy Monday Romancers. Hope to see you at our 4-year blogaversary party on Wednesday or our Fuel DC event on Feb 24th!

From the photographer:

We started the evening at Bradley and Jamilyah’s new home in Mt. Rainier, where I got to snap some shots of Kody (their adorable boxer), Jamilyah and Bradley all hanging out casually. Then it was a short drive from their home to the national arboretum, it was seriously beautiful with all the leaves turning into shades of gold, and speckles of red. At the national arboretum I had a chance to snap a couple of posed portraits of the lovely couple and photograph them in their natural element while they had a blast playing in the leaves. The night came to a close with a walk through the columns at the arboretum. It was a blast to photograph Jamilyah and Bradley and I seriously cannot wait for their wedding this coming spring!

How they met:

I met Bradley 3+ years ago, shortly after I moved to DC. After a long evening at work, I was parking my car near my house and spotted a tall man/big dog duo walking my way. I carefully timed my exit from my car to casually say hello. Noticing that Kody, the sweetest boxer/pitbull, was wearing a NYC “NQRW” subway line dog collar, Bradley and I started chatting and realized we had lived in the same neighborhood in Queens, NY years before. We also currently lived just blocks from each other. In true DC fashion, we exchanged business cards and parted ways. Later that week, after trying to accidentally run into me, Bradley actually called me (like, not a text, but an actual phone call!) and invited me to join him and Kody on their evening walk.

Capitol Inspiration: Bree & Brian’s Dreamy Washington DC Engagement

I mean, seriously, how could I resist an engagement session from a bride to be that shares my name AND shares the same proposal location as me!? (I mean, this is just getting creepy… ;)

Another Friday is upon us, and with that, another wedding inspiration feature. Today’s Capitol Inspiration post features Brian & Bree, captured by Brandon Lata.

Have a happy weekend Romancers!

Bree & Brian’s Washington DC Engagement Pictures

How They Met

Bree moved to DC about a year after Brian, already knowing many of his friends. The first three times they met, however, at least one of them doesn’t remember. That changed one spring afternoon when a mutual friend hosting a cookout promised them both the last piece of chicken. Bree arrived first and sat down with the plate on her lap. When Brian showed up a few minutes later and discovered her with what he believed was his dinner, he grabbed a fork and pulled up a chair.

Sparks flew as they sat knee-to-knee, and Brian spent the next few months trying to convince Bree to go out with him. She eventually agreed and has barely let him out of her sight since. While both still claim the entire piece of chicken was rightfully theirs, they’re also very happy to have shared it!

Miriam & Josh’s National Arboretum, Washington DC Engagement Pictures

Last Monday we had a wonderful Washington, DC engagement session at the National Arboretum in NE DC, and SURPRISE this afternoon we have yet another one! Miriam & Josh had their engagement session in December, and decided to pick one of DC’s best, naturally beautiful locations for their engagement shoot, as well! Thanks to Carmen Wang Photography [submitted via Two Bright Lights] for this beautiful DC engagement feature!

Carmen Wang Photography shared:

Miriam and Josh’s engagement session is definitely one of our favorites. They are so joyful and happy together and we had a huge blast. The weather was gorgeous: 50 degree with warm sunshine for a late December afternoon. We were so excited to enjoy the winter blossom at National Arboretum and the photos are amazing.

About Miriam & Josh:

In 2010, Miriam was living in Washington DC and was a pro at internet dating and the single Jewish scene in the DC area.  She thought her chances of meeting someone would improve if she moved back to good ole New York City.  She would take trains/planes and occasionally slum it on the bus to go to interviews and dates.  She had a suitcase of interview clothes which her friend let her keep at her apartment.  One non-profit Jewish organization had an interest in hiring Miriam.  At this point, Miriam wanted to make sure she was giving the DC Jewish scene the best shot possible, as she really did not want to leave and have to uproot the great circle of friends she had found here.  Miriam logged back online while looking for potential housing in NYC and lo and behold, was contacted by Josh.

Their first date was on May 23, 2010 at the Red Derby Bar in Washington, DC.  They had spoken about playing backgammon (sheshbesh) before and this bar had board games so they figured it would be as good a place as any.  Miriam was waiting outside when Josh walked up to her.

They talked for about 8 hours and did not quite get around to playing sheshbesh.  Two days later, Miriam received  the job offer in NYC and had to choose, which became the topic of discussion on their second date.  Josh convinced Miriam that he was serious about this and ready for marriage so Miriam stayed.

The rest is history.

The proposal story:

On September 5th … Josh proposed to Miriam Labor Day 2011 while hiking together.  Josh began saying wonderful things about Miriam, who could not stop smiling.  Josh then asked if Jews got down on one knee.  Miriam said she didn’t know so just stay standing.  Miriam has never smiled so much during hiking in her life.

Ben & Grace ~ National Arboretum Engagement Pictures

This afternoon’s beautiful Washington, DC engagement session comes from Ampersand Photography [submitted via Two Bright Lights].  Ben & Grace had their adorable engagement session at the National Arboretum in Northeast DC [right near my house!].

Their beautiful shoot and love story can also be seen on one of our favorite local wedding resources, the Washingtonian Bride & Groom blog, here.

Grace and Ben wanted somewhere in DC that was casual, scenic, and a bit whimsical. They also wanted to wear “normal clothes” … and feel like themselves in the shoot.

I think they 100% succeeded with their adorable, casual & scenic engagement shoot … don’t you think?
