FRIDAY!!! Finally! I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off – trying to cook sides and a turkey for my annual Friendsgiving gathering tonight (not to mention decorating the table!), clean the house, get some errands done, BLOG, and still do my job. Ya know – typical days for me. I am SO EXCITED for this weekend. Andy & I are volunteering tomorrow at Capital Area Food Bank, getting massages, and then seeing one of our FAVORITE artists at 9:30 club. I seriously am so freakin’ pumped for this weekend. Can you tell? Hope you guys have a good one too! For today, some dreamy, black white and gold wedding inspiration, featuring two stunning & bold brides, and some modern & striped wedding details from IYQ Photography!

We were inspired to create this beautiful shoot by the gorgeous backdrop of Richmond’s own Historic Mankin Mansion, This shoot incorporated beautiful shades of gold and brasses to compliment black and white elements. The bride wore a custom made ballerina style wedding gown while the groom wore a reinvented tux inspired suit- completed by a mini top hat and black heels. Raegan from Sweets and Soirees provided the dreamiest pale bouquet- perfectly pretty and slightly unkempt that paired perfectly with the sweets she also provided. She was able to infuse the sweets spread with decedent flavors of dark chocolate, back berries, blueberries, strawberries, ect. Emily Dionne provided gorgeous hand crafted invited that kept the integrity of the color palette. Kelly Harrison beautifully arranged all of the the different elements of textures, colors, and flavors to create two beautiful arrangements. Tremayne Hill was the makeup artist assistant and Erin Eaves was the photography assistant.

Kimie & Mario’s Modern, Grey & Orange Wedding at American Visionary Arts Museum

As far as Baltimore wedding venues go, it’s hard to beat the American Visionary Arts Museum. And though I am probably biased because one of my favorite weddings that I worked last year, happened here, Kimie & Mario’s modern, gray & orange wedding here is just another reason to love this venue. I LOVE their bold grey and orange color palette, and it worked really well in the exposed brick space. Check out all their fun details below in this real Maryland wedding feature!

We met about 7 1/2- 8 years ago at a local bar through mutual friends. I was just out of a long term serious relationship with my sons father. Of course I was attracted to him with his good looks and sweet dance moves. But he is a genuine, kind, caring, funny and a all around good guy. But what made me love him even more was how he not only treated me but the way he was/is with my son.

At that time Mario wasn’t even 21 ( I know we met in the bar ;) ) and I never would of thought that a guy would take on what he did. He treats him as if he was his own. He proposed on December 24th 2011. He came home from a Ravens game and I was surrounded by gifts to wrap. Like every year we exchange one gift on Christmas Eve, usually pjs. I opened mine and it was a beautiful album filled with pictures throughout the years of us dating. I got to a certain page which was blank and turned it and it said “Our Engagement” and he tugged on my arm and asked me to marry him.

As far as the design of our wedding. We are Os fans so used the orange and grey not only for that but to be a little different from the usual wedding colors. We wanted something more modern.

Marielba & Also’s Modern, Intimate Purple Virginia Wedding on a Rooftop

I’ve been a terrible blogger lately guys and I apologize. Things should hopefully slow down a little on my end, as this weekend marks the last weekend that I’ve either worked or attended a wedding since May 3rd. That’s almost 2 straight months of wedding weekends. I swear I love this job though ;) For Friday we have a beautiful modern, intimate rooftop wedding in Arlington, Virginia. Marielba’s short wedding dress is to die for and I LOVE all the pops of bright purple. Most of the bride’s family traveled from Venezuela to be here for this wedding.

Thanks to Stephanie Kopf for sharing her images for this Virginia wedding. Have a great weekend Romancers!

I don’t think it really hit her until Marielba stood in front of her adoring Mother, Father, and Grandmother, who had traveled all the way from Venezuela for this very moment, to see their beautiful girl in her wedding dress. This was it. It was time. The tearful smiles beaming back at her as she stood in front of them assured her that she looked stunning, and that joyful moment would set the tone for the rest of Marielba and Aldo’s beautiful wedding day.

It meant so much to them to have family come from such a distance for their big day, to laugh together and share both hugs and happy tears in each others’ arms.

We decided to do our wedding at the Garden Terrace of the Dominion Tower because it’s perfect for a intimate style wedding with such an amazing view of the city, a modern indoor party room and also a gorgeous garden. The venue’s service was great, they were always open to our ideas.

Capitol Inspiration: A Modern Pinata Inspired Wedding Styled Shoot

Happy Friday Romancers!! I am down in Virginia Beach for the day celebrating the happy wedding weekend of my good friends Mel & Ted! I am busy with bridesmaids duties, but I couldn’t just leave you guys without a Friday inspiration post, now could I?! And this one is AWESOME. Hot pink, orange, and yellow color palette, geometric shapes, tons of modern wedding details and the best part? A PINATA THEME. Yes! The creators behind the shoot share:

I wanted to create a wedding that was full of fun and inspired by a party, and a piñata is one of my favorite ways to celebrate! There are so many emotions to experience at a wedding, but this styled shoot was inspired by joy and celebration. At the end of the ceremony, the newly married couple kicks off the party by breaking into a piñata, being showered with a spray of confetti.

Thanks to Anna Reynal Photography & ALL the amazing vendors that collaborated on this awesome shoot!

More from the vendors:

I loved the faceted shape of the piñata, and all of the colorful fringe, so those elements were carried over into the rest of the wedding decor! Modern color blocked wedding invitations tie everything together and set the stage for an exciting celebration. A DIY fringe backdrop adds a festive flair and faceted shapes (made out of plastic straws and nylon wire) made a fun ceremony backdrop.

Capitol Inspiration: A Modern, John & Abigail Adams Love Story Themed Wedding Shoot

A few months ago I collaborated on a styled shoot with some pretty fabulous DC wedding vendors. Mollie Tobias Photography was the motor being the whole thing, offering to do a giveaway here on Capitol Romance to give away a styled shoot for one lucky couple that could tell their love story creatively. We picked Hilary & her husband Paul – a couple that loved colonial history and especially the love story of John & Abigail Adams. They even used one of Abigail’s love letters to John as a reading during their wedding ceremony.

Now, being that I love to do things differently, I didn’t want to do a colonial/traditional type setup – instead I wanted to do a modern take on this old love story, using brighter, bolder colors and mixing modern details with antique furnishings.

We were thrilled to have this shoot featured on two awesome blogs, Wedding Wire Blog & Love Photographs Beautifully! Check out our favorites form the shoot, below.

Jenny with Just Write Studios went above and beyond with the invitation suite – check out these details. She looked up the address of where Abigail Adams lived before marrying John AND found Abigail Adams stamps online!

Stunning florals by Studio DBI – the perfect mix of modern and vintage.

Our bride, Hilary actually DIYed the paper flowers from a book of love letters!

We used modern florals and a striking color palette of mint, gold, bright blue, and coral. We mixed the vintage rentals with a modern, industrial venue, and we had a more modern groom to a slightly vintage bride (though her fabulous dress was ALL modern).

Capitol Inspiration: Neon Wedding Decorations, Details, & Inspiration

“Let Your Love Shine Bright”

A few months ago, an email from Lisa Marie with Sweet Tea Photography popped into my gmail. “Let’s do a neon shoot!”. I was hooked.

After meeting Kristen with Molly Cat Designs at Borrowed Event, I just knew I had to bring her on board too! A neon wedding , to me, meant ultra modern, bright, and for some reason, flowerless. Kristen specializes in creating unique wedding decorations from paper and other non-floral goods, and I knew she would be the perfect addition to the shoot!

From there ideas just started to bounce in every direction, but the one thing that remained constant was the word BRIGHT.

We wanted the shoot to be in Washington, DC ~ as the area tends to be overly traditional and sometimes one-note when it comes to weddings. One day on my way home from work, I nearly drove into parked cars on 8th St SE as my eye caught The Tabula Rasa ~ a brand new event space on Capitol Hill.

The name literally means “blank slate” – and that is exactly what it is. To me, this was the PERFECT place to have our shoot, as it would allow us to really let the neon colors pop against a blank, white background.

The space was PERFECT to setup a mock, intimate wedding. It had 3 distinct spaces for a cocktail setup, a ceremony in the courtyard, and then a sit-down dinner in the back room.

We brought on some other awesome Washington DC vendors to complete the shoot. Stationery & Paper Design was rocked by Tabibi Design .

And when we decided on a modern, unique shoot, naturally we had to get the dresses from Punk Rock Bride

Our bride’s look was topped only by the amazing hairstyle, Zara Design and SUPER BRIGHT makeup by Makeup Artist, Danelle Cook

The grooms attire was pretty makeshift and we topped both off with accessories from Lou Lou of Washington, DC .

Our neon dessert spread, including neon sno cones (!!) came from Sugar & Ice DC:

At some point we decided that silly string needed to happen in this shoot. We decided to make it the “favor”/”escort card” at each of the place settings, and then we let our bride and groom have some fun with it at the end of the shoot:

The day would have never came together without help from Sweet Tea’s assistants:  Allison Perrin & Jaclyn Sinesi . They were a huge help with our alternative post-it note “guest book” and just about everything else that was setup that day!

This was one of my favorite ideas [not to brag!] – naming the “specialty cocktails” Flourescentinis to go with our “bright” theme:

For a TON more images, check out the feature on the amazing wedding blog, Bridal Musings or check out Sweet Tea Photography’s blog.

Finally – the day was topped only by the amazing “behind the scenes” video that was captured by the super talented,  Craig Schattner Video

Jess & Jeff’s FUN Richmond, VA Wedding at Main Street Station

“Jess and Jeff wanted their wedding to be a party in all senses of the word, and they definitely succeeded!”

That was one of the main words that Andy & I kept coming back to when we started thinking about the type of wedding we wanted to have. We are fun people – we like fun, and the reception is supposed to be a celebration. So, let’s make our wedding FUN!

Ever since then, I have found myself gravitating towards couples that have that similar vibe and vision for their wedding. Fortunately Jen + Ashley Photography submitted this awesomely fun Richmond, VA to me via Two Bright Lights … and yes, it’s a FUN wedding.

Jess & Jeff’s Modern Purple & Black Wedding in Richmond, Virginia

Photography: Jen + Ashley Photography

Event Coordination + Design: Christine Rice with RSVP Consultants

Venue: Main Street Station – Richmond, VA

Florals: The Green Flamingo

Catering: White House Catering

Shoes: Miu Miu

Dress: Pronovias

Makeup/Hair: Faces by Joy

DJ: Steven Carpenter

From the photographers, Jen + Ashley:

Did they have gorgeous details? Yep! Their wedding was elegant, gorgeous, and so classy. Main Street Station provided the perfect background- historic, classy, interesting and unique. But they also had something which I think can get so lost during the craziness and pressure of planning a perfect wedding…FUN.

Jess + Jeff (or “Jeffica” as their friends affectionately call them) set out with two things in mind for their wedding day. Getting married (duh), and having fun.

About the couple:

Jeff and I actually both went to Rutgers, but we didn’t meet until two years post-undergrad at a mutual friend’s birthday party in New York City! He went to HS senior prom with her (platonically), she was my friend from college…and fate took care of the rest in December of 2006 :)

Jeff and I are always on a mission to let loose and enjoy our time with friends.

About their wedding:

We were determined to make our wedding personal, unique and nothing but fun for our guests.

From our program teaching guests how to pronounce words in Hebrew (pretend like you’re hocking a loogie!)  to cake “shots” instead of a formal wedding cake, we wanted to show everyone that our wedding could be personal and heartfelt but silly and fun all at the same time.

The biggest compliment we’ve received from our friends is that our wedding “couldn’t have been anyone elses…it was so personal and so ‘Jeffica.'”

That, and our playlist of 90s hip hop kept EVERYONE on the floor all night!
