Marilyn & Rob’s Intimate, Modern Succulent & Lace Wedding at Oxon Hill Manor

Images: Rachel Gierlach

Happy Friday Romancers. Another week of blog slacking, but it’s Andy’s birthday today, and I’ve got an Eastern Market wedding tomorrow, and FALL WEATHER IS HERE (back? it better stay!), so it’s been another busy week, with lots on my mind, not enough things accomplished, too much bad news, and always looking for more happy. So here’s a GORGEOUS Maryland wedding at Oxon Hill Manor to help get you all to the weekend.

“When Rob and I decided to get married, first we looked at the things that are most important to us. We decided: Our people – We’ve both been blessed with amazing families we couldn’t live without, and a group of friends as close as family. Our people are by far the most important thing in our lives and we knew this had to be a priority.

Rob and I both grew up in Georgia (different areas oddly enough, we didn’t meet until years later in Washington DC). Rob’s family is from Michigan, and he considers it a second home. Lastly, Washington DC has been our home for almost 10 years. We own a home and consider it a very important part of our life together. We wanted to incorporate aspects from all of these places that have shaped who we are.

We consider ourselves fairly funky and somewhat non-traditional (at least we like to think we are :)). We’re city people who like to have fun. We really wanted to make sure our personalities didn’t get lost in the planning process, and our priorities remained at the forefront.

Jeannie & Chris’ Intimate, Beautiful November Wedding at Morrison House in Alexandria, VA

Images: Andrea Rodway

It’s been embarrasingly long since I’ve blogged a real wedding, but I am excited to share Jeannie & Chris’ self-submitted, intimate Alexandria Virginia wedding with you today! With just 65 guests, 6 months to plan, and a $25K budget, Jeannie & Chris threw a beautiful, fun affair that stayed true to their personalities and love of DC. They’ve also shared some AWESOME advice for other couples looking to plan a wedding on the faster side of things, without hiring a planner to execute! Take it away guys!

Why we chose an intimate wedding:

We got engaged in June of 2016 and knew we wanted to get married sooner rather than later.  In the DC area, larger wedding venues often have waitlists over a year long.  As much as we would have loved to have a large wedding, it would be too expensive in the DC area and we would have to wait a long time to reserve a venue.  We considered a Caribbean destination wedding but realized many of our relatives could not travel that distance and many of our close friends would not come because of Zika virus.  We had to prioritize; the most important thing to us was to celebrate our day with our closest friends and family.  Most of our families would need to travel so we wanted a location that was convenient and could also double as mini-vacation for out of towners.

Why we chose the Morrison House in Old Town Alexandria:

We really wanted our wedding ceremony and reception to be in the same location so that guests could start celebrating immediately after the ceremony.  The Morrison House also offered complete wedding packages that included all catering, an open bar, and even a beautiful cake from Fluffy Thoughts bakery.  We felt like the Morrison décor reflected both of our styles: traditional with elegant and modern accents.   We immediately booked the venue when we saw it was available on Veteran’s Day.  We were fortunate to enjoy a Friday discount on the wedding package.   The Morrison House was the perfect location and size for our small guest list and the all-inclusive wedding package made for stress-free planning.   Our photographer, Andrea Rodway, took us to picture-perfect cobblestone alleys and streets in Old Town for our first look and portraits.

FRIDAY!!! Finally! I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off – trying to cook sides and a turkey for my annual Friendsgiving gathering tonight (not to mention decorating the table!), clean the house, get some errands done, BLOG, and still do my job. Ya know – typical days for me. I am SO EXCITED for this weekend. Andy & I are volunteering tomorrow at Capital Area Food Bank, getting massages, and then seeing one of our FAVORITE artists at 9:30 club. I seriously am so freakin’ pumped for this weekend. Can you tell? Hope you guys have a good one too! For today, some dreamy, black white and gold wedding inspiration, featuring two stunning & bold brides, and some modern & striped wedding details from IYQ Photography!

We were inspired to create this beautiful shoot by the gorgeous backdrop of Richmond’s own Historic Mankin Mansion, This shoot incorporated beautiful shades of gold and brasses to compliment black and white elements. The bride wore a custom made ballerina style wedding gown while the groom wore a reinvented tux inspired suit- completed by a mini top hat and black heels. Raegan from Sweets and Soirees provided the dreamiest pale bouquet- perfectly pretty and slightly unkempt that paired perfectly with the sweets she also provided. She was able to infuse the sweets spread with decedent flavors of dark chocolate, back berries, blueberries, strawberries, ect. Emily Dionne provided gorgeous hand crafted invited that kept the integrity of the color palette. Kelly Harrison beautifully arranged all of the the different elements of textures, colors, and flavors to create two beautiful arrangements. Tremayne Hill was the makeup artist assistant and Erin Eaves was the photography assistant.

Kimie & Mario’s Modern, Grey & Orange Wedding at American Visionary Arts Museum

As far as Baltimore wedding venues go, it’s hard to beat the American Visionary Arts Museum. And though I am probably biased because one of my favorite weddings that I worked last year, happened here, Kimie & Mario’s modern, gray & orange wedding here is just another reason to love this venue. I LOVE their bold grey and orange color palette, and it worked really well in the exposed brick space. Check out all their fun details below in this real Maryland wedding feature!

We met about 7 1/2- 8 years ago at a local bar through mutual friends. I was just out of a long term serious relationship with my sons father. Of course I was attracted to him with his good looks and sweet dance moves. But he is a genuine, kind, caring, funny and a all around good guy. But what made me love him even more was how he not only treated me but the way he was/is with my son.

At that time Mario wasn’t even 21 ( I know we met in the bar ;) ) and I never would of thought that a guy would take on what he did. He treats him as if he was his own. He proposed on December 24th 2011. He came home from a Ravens game and I was surrounded by gifts to wrap. Like every year we exchange one gift on Christmas Eve, usually pjs. I opened mine and it was a beautiful album filled with pictures throughout the years of us dating. I got to a certain page which was blank and turned it and it said “Our Engagement” and he tugged on my arm and asked me to marry him.

As far as the design of our wedding. We are Os fans so used the orange and grey not only for that but to be a little different from the usual wedding colors. We wanted something more modern.

Marielba & Also’s Modern, Intimate Purple Virginia Wedding on a Rooftop

I’ve been a terrible blogger lately guys and I apologize. Things should hopefully slow down a little on my end, as this weekend marks the last weekend that I’ve either worked or attended a wedding since May 3rd. That’s almost 2 straight months of wedding weekends. I swear I love this job though ;) For Friday we have a beautiful modern, intimate rooftop wedding in Arlington, Virginia. Marielba’s short wedding dress is to die for and I LOVE all the pops of bright purple. Most of the bride’s family traveled from Venezuela to be here for this wedding.

Thanks to Stephanie Kopf for sharing her images for this Virginia wedding. Have a great weekend Romancers!

I don’t think it really hit her until Marielba stood in front of her adoring Mother, Father, and Grandmother, who had traveled all the way from Venezuela for this very moment, to see their beautiful girl in her wedding dress. This was it. It was time. The tearful smiles beaming back at her as she stood in front of them assured her that she looked stunning, and that joyful moment would set the tone for the rest of Marielba and Aldo’s beautiful wedding day.

It meant so much to them to have family come from such a distance for their big day, to laugh together and share both hugs and happy tears in each others’ arms.

We decided to do our wedding at the Garden Terrace of the Dominion Tower because it’s perfect for a intimate style wedding with such an amazing view of the city, a modern indoor party room and also a gorgeous garden. The venue’s service was great, they were always open to our ideas.
