Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “Ends of the Earth”

wedding music that doesn't suck graphic

You can thank a Christmas Zales commercial for today’s Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck post. Which is slightly ironic, but after listening a few times to this song, I decided that I’ve heard it before, I just can’t for the life of me, remember where! Any ideas!?

Today’s wedding song is Lord Huron‘s “Ends of the Earth”. It reminds me of Of Monsters and Men and I feel like it belongs in everyone of those Wes Anderson movies.

To the ends of the earth, would you follow me
There’s a world that was meant for our eyes to see
To the ends of the earth, would you follow me

I feel like this would make a KILLER processional (or recessional) song choice or easily fit into your wedding ceremony song lineup. At the very least, use it for your cocktail hour playlist OR just listen to it on repeat today at your desk, like I plan to do.

Happy Monday Romancers! We’ll be back shortly with an engagement feature!

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: The Heart of Life

If I really went back to check the last time I did a “wedding music that doesn’t suck” post on a Monday morning, I’d probably be embarrassed. So instead of focusing on the fact that it’s been entirely too long since I’ve shared any songs, let’s get to this beautiful modern processional wedding song suggestion.

I’ve always had a roller coaster opinion of John Mayer. Before he hit the radio, I loved him, then I hated him, then I found myself singing along, then he became a dbag and I hated him again. But the other night I heard this song during the cool down of my spin class … and, well, I remembered why I initially liked his music.

The Heart of Life would seriously be a movie-perfect, modern processional song, or even for another part of your wedding ceremony music lineup.

Wedding appropriate lyrics:

Pain throws your heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
Fear is a friend who’s misunderstood
But I know the heart of life is good
I know it’s good

When I hear songs like this, the images of a bride sashaying down the aisle, just instantly plays in my mind. I also find myself imagining it playing during a wedding video montage.

What do you think? Non-sucky processional song suggestion success? Better for the cocktails? Or maybe you are just still mad at me that I have completely sucked at suggesting songs?

Regardless, let’s do this Monday.

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: Imagine Dragon’s “It’s Time”

I admit that I am actually a bit ashamed of how long it’s been since the last time I did a “wedding music that doesn’t suck” post. I apologize, but also need to admit to you and myself, that thinking of alternative music song suggestions every week was a way bigger task that I had originally thought, once I had exhausted my playlist.

So apologies aside, I have a great alternative wedding song suggestion for you today from Imagine Dragons called “It’s Time”. The music itself is powerful, very moving and the lyrics are totally appropriate for an alternative wedding ceremony or great addition to your cocktail hour playlist.

I don’t ever want to let you down
I don’t ever want to leave this town
‘Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

I’d really love to see someone use this song as a modern processional song [please let me know if you do]. I can just imagine the doors opening and the bride walking down the aisle as the chorus reigns in with “it’s time to begin, isn’t it?”.

Hope you all enjoy this upbeat, modern wedding song suggestion to get this week started!

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: All This Time

I feel like it’s been forever since my last Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck post (a recurring blog feature suggesting modern wedding songs)! Lots of holidays, traveling, and such has made my schedule a bit wonky – but this week should be back on track.

My friend Steve (who is getting married next year! yay!) gave me today’s modern wedding song suggestion, One Republic’s “All This Time“.

This song would be awesome for your first dance, or even to walk down the aisle to. You could even have this on your wedding video too!

Love these lyrics:

All this time we were waiting for each other
All this time I was waiting for you
We got all these words, can’t waste them on another
So I’m straight in a straight line running back to you

Let us know what you think ~ or if you end up using this great, modern song for your first dance or wedding processional!

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: Mumford & Sons

On Tuesday I will be sharing Corrie & Tim’s amazing Leesburg, Virginia Wedding at the Thomas Birkby House (you might remember this one as the wedding that I live-tweeted!), so I thought for today’s modern wedding song suggestion, I would use one from Corrie & Tim’s awesome wedding. And just wait for Tuesday with their whole feature from the ah-mazing Luke Eshleman Photography!

“Sigh No More” by Mumford & Sons

Love that will not betray you,
dismay or enslave you,
It will set you free

[lyrics via LyricsMania]

This song is a BEAUTIFUL modern song for your wedding ~ Corrie & Tim used this song for their ceremony processional (as the wedding party walked down the aisle) and it was just beautiful, gave me goosebumps (even in the 100+ degree heat). It starts slow, but has an amazing build to it … just see for yourself …

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “Hard Sun”

If you haven’t seen the movie, Into the Wild, you really need to. While I don’t remember particularly loving the book in high school, the movie is awesome. It’s an emotional roller coaster, full of challenging life questions & discoveries, and has given me one of my most favorite quotes of all time:

Careers are demeaning twentieth century inventions, more a liability than an assett.

The movie also has an incredible soundtrack by Eddie Vedder. He wrote (and performed) original songs for the movie, one of which is called “Hard Sun” and gives us our song suggestion for today’s Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck blog post.

“When I walk beside her
I am the better man
when i look to leave her
I always stagger back again

Once I built an ivory tower
so I could worship from above
when I climb down to be set free
she took me in again”

The acoustic guitar strumming and powerful lyrics would be a beautiful, modern song to walk down the aisle to, have your first dance to, even for a father-daughter or mother-son dance at your wedding reception. Enjoy!

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: “Stay With Me Jesus”

So not to get all religious on my blog (I am not one to promote one religion over any others, and 100% believe that everyone should have the freedom to believe in whatever they want) but Guster’s “Stay With Me Jesus” is an insanely appropriate wedding ceremony song for those that have a Christian faith, but still want a more modern song to walk down the aisle to, over traditional church hymns.

No matter what you believe in – the musical orchestration of this song is beautiful and the singer’s soothing voice is just all too perfect for a more solemn wedding processional.

Wedding Music That Doesn’t Suck: Jack Johnson “Better Together”

Jack Johnson is the ultimate chill-out, makeyouthinkofthebeach music. His soothing guitar strumming and adorably sweet lyrics are what wedding music dreams are made of.

Today’s wedding music that doesn’t suck features one of Mr. Johnson’s best love songs (well, in my opinion). This song could EASILY be used for many parts of a wedding, walking down the aisle, first dance song, or even as the background to a slide show or your wedding video. This song is also a perfect lead-in for the lovely engagement shoot I am featuring this afternoon.

So take a listen and let Jack ease you into the work week …
