Well another weekend has come and gone. Andy & I survived a trip to IKEA yesterday and it was nice to kind of just “be” around DC this weekend. We watched Spotlight on Friday and then Saturday night we enjoyed dinner & some beers on our deck … even with an uninvited guest hanging out. Yesterday I made Andy takes some promo snaps of the new additions to our online store – more Capitol Romance Wedding Planners, but this time in Purple & Teal! We are first completing our VERY FIRST wholesale agreement (!!) with the new colors and will then have the additional binders up in the shop, ASAP. I can’t wait for you to see them!

For today we have an adorable, laid-back Baltimore, MD engagement session. I love the smiles & laughter in this shoot and just how comfortable the two are with each other and in front of the camera. Plus the bride to be is a Harry Potter fanatic. Need a I say more? Just what I needed to get this week going.

How they met:

Jeremy and I grew up 5 minutes from each in Edison, NJ. Whenever I tell people that they seem surprised we weren’t high school sweetheart or something – easy explanation. We didn’t really roll with the same crowds! He was a jock and I loved math. Jeremy swears I must have knew who he was as “he was kind of a big deal” but honestly, I just really loved math, hated sports and wasn’t even allowed to date in high school!

It wasn’t until my sophomore year at Rutgers University when a mutual friend introduced us, I’ll never forget the first night we met in the basement of a gross Rutgers fraternity. We bonded over our foreign parents and loveeee for 1/2 priced appetizers at Applebee’s.

A few weeks later after collecting all of our quarters we had our first date at approximately 10:01pm. We shared 8 appetizers and 2 waters. Jeremy recently told my friends he knew he had met the love of his life when I ordered 4 apps on a first date. #FOODISLIFE

best of 2014 md weddings header (Small)

I tried hard to narrow down ALL our real weddings of 2014, but I just couldn’t do it down to 5. So I decided to do a Top 5 for Maryland, Virginia, AND DC Weddings, because the features this year were just THAT awesome. So we’ll start things off with our Top 5 Maryland Weddings of 2014 ~ check them out:

#5. Kimmie & Marios Modern Bright Orange & Grey American Visionary Arts Museum Wedding

I just loved the bright colors of this one and how MODERN Kimme & Mario went with the decorations of one of my fav Maryland wedding venues.

#4. Trish & Ned’s Vintage, DIY Maryland Wedding at Glen Echo Park

The vintage dreaminess of this Glen Echo Park Wedding has stayed with me since I blogged it. One of my readers even commented that if I had a chance to plan my own wedding again – it might look like this (she’s so right). So much gorgeous happening here.

#3. Chuck & Marcia’s Handfasting Wedding Ceremony at a Renaissance Faire

This was one of our most unique wedding features this year – a handfasting ceremony AT a Renaissance Fair. I loved it.

#2. Caitlin & Susie’s SUPER DIY, Literary Themed Wedding in Maryland

What else can I say about Cait & Susie’s AH-MAZING DIY wedding. I was fortunate to actually be a part of this one, and it will be one that stays with me for a while. So much love between these two ladies, their families, and their friends. This entire wedding was thrown for around $10K and was completely DIYed by the brides and their family members.

#1. Andrea & Nate’s Colorful, Offbeat Maryland Wedding at the Visionary Arts Museum

I’m a sucker for bright colors, brides with short hair, and tattoos – what can I say?! AVAM makes this list twice, but Andrea & Nate’s wedding couldn’t be more different than Kimmie & Marios’.

It’s no secret how I feel about Glen Echo Park and I am SO pumped to get to work my first wedding there next year. However, I especially love today’s real Maryland wedding at Glen Echo because of the way the couple chose to go more vintage than bright/carnival themed. It makes the Bumper car pavilion look SO different, no? Ned & Trish picked a FABULOUS list of DC area wedding vendors and threw in a ton of vintage touches and DIY projects. Trish, being a graphic designer, had fun with the wedding invitations, and I love the pop of whimsy the oversized paper flowers throw in! Plus the couple opted for good old fashioned ice cream cake and I think this is just the BEST wedding cake idea EVER! Thanks to Rebecca Dick of Blue Canary Events for submitting this one!

We chose the venue because we just loved the vintage aspect to it and the open air of the structure. It gave us that barn/outdoor feel without being far from the city and it just had so much more character. The carousel was amazing and we wanted something fun for our guests to experience. Actually when we saw the carousel, we were just entranced and we even moved our wedding date from October to late September so we could make sure the carousel was going to be open. A lot of our family is from out of the area, so we wanted to give them a broad view of all that DC has to offer – it’s not just all monuments and pillars!

However, with this awesome unique venue, we didn’t want to go too overboard with a carnival theme. A lot of people suggested things like balloons, pin stripes, and lollipops, but we really just wanted to let the setting speak for itself. I also tried to steer away from having set colors and make it a broad color palette. We ended up going with a lot of pinks, peaches, neutrals and turquoise.

The day started off at their home nearby where Christina and the bride’s maids were all getting ready. All the ladies were pretty relaxed as they got ready while wearing their matching robes. Christina opted for a very elegant, yet casual wedding gown, which completely matched her personal style that was evident throughout their home.

I met the guys at Smokey Glenn Farm just before the ceremony and they were definitely in a very relaxed mood. The part of the farm where the ceremony and reception happened was amazing. It was very relaxed, intimate, and had plenty of activities to keep everyone happy including its very own miniature golf course which all of the guests took part in. Christina and the ladies arrived and it was straight away to the ceremony which was held just beneath the barn which hosted the reception. All of the details of the ceremony were perfectly suited to the relaxed country feeling of their day.

Margaret & Justin’s Vintage Carnival Themed Wedding at Union Mills

Love this simple Maryland wedding feature today! It features a TON of DIY and the most adorable vintage carnival theme! Margaret & Justin got married at Union Mills Homestead and wanted something rustic and vintage. So once they decided upon the historic mill as their venue, the vintage carnival theme fell right into place. They shared, “It allowed us to play up both of our tastes. I love everything vintage and Justin likes the rustic look, so it was the perfect compromise. The theme came together beautifully and was perfect for our venue.”

Thanks to Brenda Murphy Photography for sharing this one with us!

All paper ware (like the place cards and table numbers) my husband made and we printed at Kinkos. My brother made the cut out face board and we borrowed the popcorn machine. Basically we made pretty much everything ourselves.
