Capitol Inspiration: Pictures of Handmade, DIY Rustic Wedding Details

Boy do I have a real wedding inspiration post for you today kiddos. The always lovely Sarah of Ampersand Photography dropped this nugget of DIY-goodness into my Two Bright Lights inbox and though I was hoping to get more details from the couple, I figured it would make for a great Capitol Inspiration post instead!

The couple, the bride’s Aunts and cousins DIYed the shiz out of this rustic, handmade wedding. Just WAIT until you see all the details. Handmade rustic signage and centerpieces, all to adorn the couple’s church in Virginia, where they had the ceremony and the reception!

So without further ado:

Capitol Inspiration: Rachel & Wesley’s Handmade, DIY Offbeat Hot Pink & Orange Wedding!

I shared a sneak peak on my Facebook wall yesterday of today’s offbeat wedding inspiration post. But the shot really didn’t do this amazing, 100% DIY wedding justice. The couple opted for a laid-back, backyard wedding – but they did not hold back on amazing, handmade details. The bright orange and hot-pink color scheme has me reeling, especially with the inclusion of the colors in the bride’s handmade dress.

A special thanks to Gambol Photography for submitting this AWE-inducing offbeat wedding to me, and to Two Bright Lights for making it possible!

Happy Inspiration Friday everyone. Let’s get it on.

Rachel & Wesley’s Offbeat DIY Backyard Wedding in Hot Pink & Orange

From Gambol Photography:

Rachel & Wesley’s wedding was to die for. The best part? 100% handmade, DIY goodness.

The happy couple opted for a backyard, family-oriented affair with sweet, intimate details that expressed their truly unique relationship and personalities. The whole family pitched in to create, craft and collect items to decorate and light up the ceremony and reception space.

love the mismatched, hot pink & orange patterned bridesmaids dresses

and these summery, hot pink and orange bouquets are GORGEOUS

The groom’s dad owns a beautiful home right on the ocean in Elizabeth City, NC, so that served beautifully as the ceremony and reception venue for the big day.

Rachel & Wesley themselves are so photogenic naturally, but their genuine love and adoration for each other just begs emotion and warm fuzzies from everyone they come in contact with.

It’s so obvious how smitten they are about one another, and that kind of crazy love is so refreshing and precious to witness!

So true – just LOOK at this look that Rachel is throwing Wesley. You can literally see the love in her eyes.

the “we just got married” bride fist pump – always a favorite shot of mine :)

Taylor & Stuart’s Yellow & Green DIY Frederick Maryland Wedding ~ Part 1

Anytime my gmail notification tells me I have a submission via Two Bright Lights from Rebekah J. Murray Photography, my heart skips a beat. Rebekah’s photography skills are not easily matched – and the weddings she shoots? Well they make my heart sing, and reaffirm my belief that the DC metro area CAN be offbeat & unique when it comes to weddings.

Rebekah has already allowed me to feature Natalie & Stewart’s whimsical, balloon- filled Virginia wedding [with some serious awesome water gun appearances] and Tiffany & Jimmy’s Vintage Maryland wedding [with that gorgeous tea-length lace dress & blue vintage VW getaway car!]. Now I get to share the amazingness that is:

Taylor & Stewart’s handmade, yellow & green DIY Frederick, MD wedding!

I have SO many gorgeous images from this shoot to share & all the handmade & DIY details from the bride, Taylor, that the second part of this feature will be shared tomorrow! Take it away Taylor:

My husband Stuart and I met in 2008, my last year of my undergrad as we were both psychology major’s and had a class together. We started dating the semester after, and quickly became best friends, and still are. :)

He is currently working on his master’s in Marriage & Family Human Services, and I just recently completed my master’s in Professional Counseling. We have two fantastic dogs, a black lab and a german shepherd, and live in Lynchburg, VA.

We are both happy, fun loving people and planned the wedding as one big giant party!

love Taylor’s unique, handmade lace bridal hairpiece

Taylor shares the details on her wedding dress ~ from a secondhand store! [love]:

I bought my dress at a second hand [wedding] dress shop in Lynchburg, VA, – Church Street Bridal – and it happened to be a kleinfeld gown!

My mom’s friend embellished it for me in such a perfect way with a little lace and a whimsical flower, and hairpiece to match.

A bride in flats is a thing I ALWAYS love. So practical [a girl after my own heart] & Taylor shared:

I wore multi-colored Steve Madden flats that were just adorable in my opinion ;)

I couldn’t agree more ;)

My favorite colors are green and yellow, so it was easy to make these work with a late spring wedding.

Stuart’s mom works at a florist and hand made my bouquet for me.

love Taylor’s simple, natural-looking bridal makeup. Her face is just radiating natural beauty!

And off she goes for her first look!!
