Tate & Julie’s Whimsical Orange & Green Wedding in Fairfax, VA

I’ve been super pumped to share this whimsical orange & green Virginia wedding from Kelly Ewell Photography [submitted via Two Bright Lights] ever since it dropped in my inbox. I fell in love with the fun colors, the bride donning chucks, and all the awesomely fun details they included at there reception – namely legos at the tables for guests to have fun with! The venue was also pretty freaking cool – a library!! A pretty perfect option for couples looking for offbeat, intimate wedding venues in Northern Virginia!

Plus, any wedding that makes mention to Mighty Ducks – certainly sounds like my kind of wedding ;)

Tate & Julie’s Whimsical, Orange & Green Wedding in Fairfax, VA

Catering: RR Catering

Venue: Old Town Hall

The proposal story:

Tate & Julie enjoy geocaching, which involves finding hidden containers using GPS coordinates. They decided to go out to search for a particularly tough cache that they hadn’t been able to find before.

Once they got out to look, they broke off in different directions. Julie was certain she was looking in the right spot, but Tate kept telling her that it was 25 yards further up.

As Julie got closer she saw the cache sitting in a tree trunk. She opened it and started looking through the contents when Tate pointed out a folded up piece of paper that said “Read Me“.

The note was a story about a boy and a girl who liked to go on adventures together and eventually fell in love.

The end of the story trailed off without an official ending, so Julie looked over to Tate a little confused.

It was then that she saw Tate down on one knee with a ring in his hand.

It had been a story about them and Tate had left it there the night before, so he finished off the story by asking if she would marry him. Of course Julie said yes!

Alonzo & Natasha’s Modern, Whimsical Forest Wedding in Alexandria, VA

This morning’s Northern Virginia wedding feature includes a ton of awesome choreographed dancing – as the bride was a former NYC choreographer and WNBA New York Liberty Dancer!! The couple wanted a whimsical forest themed wedding, filled with a sense of magic – and they compiled a bunch of DC area wedding vendors to make it happen!

Thanks to Irene Adbou Photography & Two Bright Lights, I get to share Natasha & Alonzo’s stunning, modern whimsical forest wedding with you all! Natasha & Alonzo infused their wedding with their own beliefs [a Buddhist & Christian wedding ceremony] and chic sense of style. I am absolutely in love with the moss green bridesmaids dresses with their chic black bows!

Alonzo & Natasha’s Magical Forest Themed Wedding in Alexandria, VA

VendorsHair Stylist:  Beau Totale Aveda Concept Salon | Floral Designer:  The Enchanted Florist | Musicians:  Sage String Quartet | Reception Venue:  Lorien Hotel & Spa | Invitation Designer:  The Dandelion Patch | Dress Store:  Hannelore’s of Olde Town | DJ:  Ed Jackson Entertainment | Ceremony Location:  Lorien Hotel and Spa

The couple wanted a Whimsical Forest theme for their wedding and to encapture that idea, Natasha filled the wedding design with eclectic, magical touches. She brought in elements of natural wood for the gift table, topiary tree escort card holders, cascading white and green flower arrangements (including hanging green amaranthus) on the reception dinner tables, table numbers with pictures of peacocks that Natasha took in New Mexico and place cards showcasing exotic trees from different countries.

I am in LOVE with the huge black bows on the green bridesmaids dresses. SO freakin’ stylish!

Part 2 of Stuart & Taylor’s DIY, Yellow & Green Frederick, Maryland Wedding

Taylor on the Maryland wedding venue selection:

I chose the Gambrill House because I love all things antique, and after seeing pictures of a wedding Becka did a few years back, I called and found out that all we needed was a permit!!So from there my wedding became extra DIY.

there are those awesome multi-colored flats again!

how awesome does Taylor’s green & yellow bouquet look with Stuart’s sunflower boutonniere?

Love love love the mismatched bridesmaids in yellow & green [and particularly the lace overlay on the yellow dresses!!]

I even decided to have my bridesmaids wear two colors instead of just one.

love love love non-staged wedding party shots! this is no exception :)

Taylor & Stuart’s Yellow & Green DIY Frederick Maryland Wedding ~ Part 1

Anytime my gmail notification tells me I have a submission via Two Bright Lights from Rebekah J. Murray Photography, my heart skips a beat. Rebekah’s photography skills are not easily matched – and the weddings she shoots? Well they make my heart sing, and reaffirm my belief that the DC metro area CAN be offbeat & unique when it comes to weddings.

Rebekah has already allowed me to feature Natalie & Stewart’s whimsical, balloon- filled Virginia wedding [with some serious awesome water gun appearances] and Tiffany & Jimmy’s Vintage Maryland wedding [with that gorgeous tea-length lace dress & blue vintage VW getaway car!]. Now I get to share the amazingness that is:

Taylor & Stewart’s handmade, yellow & green DIY Frederick, MD wedding!

I have SO many gorgeous images from this shoot to share & all the handmade & DIY details from the bride, Taylor, that the second part of this feature will be shared tomorrow! Take it away Taylor:

My husband Stuart and I met in 2008, my last year of my undergrad as we were both psychology major’s and had a class together. We started dating the semester after, and quickly became best friends, and still are. :)

He is currently working on his master’s in Marriage & Family Human Services, and I just recently completed my master’s in Professional Counseling. We have two fantastic dogs, a black lab and a german shepherd, and live in Lynchburg, VA.

We are both happy, fun loving people and planned the wedding as one big giant party!

love Taylor’s unique, handmade lace bridal hairpiece

Taylor shares the details on her wedding dress ~ from a secondhand store! [love]:

I bought my dress at a second hand [wedding] dress shop in Lynchburg, VA, – Church Street Bridal – and it happened to be a kleinfeld gown!

My mom’s friend embellished it for me in such a perfect way with a little lace and a whimsical flower, and hairpiece to match.

A bride in flats is a thing I ALWAYS love. So practical [a girl after my own heart] & Taylor shared:

I wore multi-colored Steve Madden flats that were just adorable in my opinion ;)

I couldn’t agree more ;)

My favorite colors are green and yellow, so it was easy to make these work with a late spring wedding.

Stuart’s mom works at a florist and hand made my bouquet for me.

love Taylor’s simple, natural-looking bridal makeup. Her face is just radiating natural beauty!

And off she goes for her first look!!
