Capitol Wedding: Vi & Harmonie’s Offbeat Baltimore Wedding at Gutierrez Studios

Excuse me while I fangirl over this amazing offbeat Baltimore, MD wedding that Voula Trip Photography submitted to me on Two Bright Lights.

*FAN GIRLS* [I am not even certain what this action would be]

Harmonie & Vi’s wedding was awesome; inspiring, offbeat, eclectic, and 100% their own. It included custom vows, a TON of DIY, a rainbow color palette, lightbulb wedding design & motif, and an industrial wedding venue that included an umbrella chandelier. Yes, a chandelier full of lit-up umbrellas was present at this wedding.

And now you know why I am fan-girling ;)

Reception Venue:  Gutierrez Studios
Dress Designer:  Maggie Sottero
Ceremony Location:  The Village Church

From the photographer:

One of the first things that Harmonie said to me in our initial conversation was that people were describing her as very untraditional.

Their wedding was very DIY.

how much do i love the bride’s blue flats? oh … ever so much!

Harmonie’s Aunt Kim, a hair-stylist from Toronto did the bride’s hair and also did all the bridal bouquets and the flower arrangements at the reception.

love this french braid bridal hairstyle!

Harmonie & Vi’s church reminds me so much of the non-denominational one Andy & I found in DC! A perfect place when you want to “create your own” wedding ceremony like Harmonie & Vi did!

Both Harmonie and Vi are Vietnamese, but Harmonie’s family are Buddhists and Vi’s family is Catholic. The couple decided to create their own ceremony. Instead of a unity candle the bride and groom decided to plant seeds of a tree to symbolize their future growth together.

They both wrote their own vows and read them to each other. After their vows they then read a second set of vows to each other that their friends and family took part in writing for them.

Yet again – another couple that wrote their own wedding vows – and just look at the natural emotion that comes from it! Also love the absolute family involvement of having your friends/family help write a SECOND set of vows! LOVE LOVE LOVE

Really love brides with chunky statement necklaces !

Taylor & Stuart’s Yellow & Green DIY Frederick Maryland Wedding ~ Part 1

Anytime my gmail notification tells me I have a submission via Two Bright Lights from Rebekah J. Murray Photography, my heart skips a beat. Rebekah’s photography skills are not easily matched – and the weddings she shoots? Well they make my heart sing, and reaffirm my belief that the DC metro area CAN be offbeat & unique when it comes to weddings.

Rebekah has already allowed me to feature Natalie & Stewart’s whimsical, balloon- filled Virginia wedding [with some serious awesome water gun appearances] and Tiffany & Jimmy’s Vintage Maryland wedding [with that gorgeous tea-length lace dress & blue vintage VW getaway car!]. Now I get to share the amazingness that is:

Taylor & Stewart’s handmade, yellow & green DIY Frederick, MD wedding!

I have SO many gorgeous images from this shoot to share & all the handmade & DIY details from the bride, Taylor, that the second part of this feature will be shared tomorrow! Take it away Taylor:

My husband Stuart and I met in 2008, my last year of my undergrad as we were both psychology major’s and had a class together. We started dating the semester after, and quickly became best friends, and still are. :)

He is currently working on his master’s in Marriage & Family Human Services, and I just recently completed my master’s in Professional Counseling. We have two fantastic dogs, a black lab and a german shepherd, and live in Lynchburg, VA.

We are both happy, fun loving people and planned the wedding as one big giant party!

love Taylor’s unique, handmade lace bridal hairpiece

Taylor shares the details on her wedding dress ~ from a secondhand store! [love]:

I bought my dress at a second hand [wedding] dress shop in Lynchburg, VA, – Church Street Bridal – and it happened to be a kleinfeld gown!

My mom’s friend embellished it for me in such a perfect way with a little lace and a whimsical flower, and hairpiece to match.

A bride in flats is a thing I ALWAYS love. So practical [a girl after my own heart] & Taylor shared:

I wore multi-colored Steve Madden flats that were just adorable in my opinion ;)

I couldn’t agree more ;)

My favorite colors are green and yellow, so it was easy to make these work with a late spring wedding.

Stuart’s mom works at a florist and hand made my bouquet for me.

love Taylor’s simple, natural-looking bridal makeup. Her face is just radiating natural beauty!

And off she goes for her first look!!

Capitol Inspiration: Details & Floral Inspiration from a Colorful New Jersey Wedding

We’ve made it to yet another wedding inspiration Friday feature! I am currently writing this to you from a Starbucks in Rosslyn, VA, as I ponder what it’s like to get to work from home/remote locations and be super jealous of those that get to! But I digress and get back to the task at hand, an offbeat wedding from my home state, New Jersey [please refrain from any Jersey Shore comments].

Thanks to You Are Raven photography & Two Bright Lights and a slew of other vendors, I get to share this beautifully offbeat wedding that has so much amazing floral design [with a true explosion of bright colors]. I know you guys are going to love this one ~ especially any bride & grooms-to-be out there that are planning on having LOTS of bright colors in their wedding color palette.

The bridesmaids wore bright teal dresses with cardigans [i love this look!], the bride’s pearl engagement ring is truly unique, and the bright, mismatched floral centerpieces are to DIE for. Enjoy!

Denise & LJ’s Offbeat Neon Colored Wedding in Bluemont, Virginia

What happens when a vocalist and a DJ get married?

A wedding with exploding bright, neon colors, DIY details, and CD wedding favors of course! This morning we have Denise & LJ’s techno-music inspired offbeat wedding at the Bluemont Vineyard in Virginia, by Anna Bruce Photography [submitted via Two Bright Lights].

Denise & LJ’s Techno-Music Inspired Wedding in Northern Virginia

LJ & Denise also have an extremely touching love story & proposal …

LJ proposed to Denise around the two year anniversary of her mother’s passing. It was a very difficult time for her. Denise was obviously upset and told LJ that she felt so alone.

LJ told Denise that he would be right back with some water and when he returned he got down on one knee and said “I love you and you will never be alone” and he proposed to her.

They got married one year later around the anniversary of her mother’s passing so that it would be a happy time instead of sad.

What a truly touching story ~ and such a reflection of how cyclical life is with its ups and downs, beginnings and ends. Another touching point was that both the engagement ring and wedding band that Denise now has and wears was her mothers.

how gorgeous & unique is Denise [and her mom’s] engagement ring?

just love the pops of color with the hot pink & yellow paper lanterns!

Natalie & Stewart’s Whimsical, Colorful DIY Virginia Wedding

This morning’s offbeat, Washington DC area wedding comes to  us from a seriously talented DC area wedding photographer, Rebekah J. Murray. I have followed her website/blog/photography for a while now, so I am just over the moon to be able to feature one of her real weddings! And boy oh boy is it a good one. Offbeat, detailed, DIY, eclectic, and nontraditionaleverything I love and more. [Thanks to Two Bright Lights for the submission!]

Rebekah shared:

I can’t remember ever photographing a wedding with a more playful attention to detail. Stewart and Natalie were married at her parent’s beach house near Chincoteague, Virginia, in the smidge of a town called Assateague. (it consists of Front St., Back St., and Courthouse St. So cute!) Natalie had grown up visiting this house and it was only fitting to have her happiest day surrounded by her happiest memories. Their vision from the start was to have as much fun as possible and (besides the near-melting heat) it was a smashing success. The eclectic, handmade details and bright colors made it feel like a vibrant afternoon at a carnival fading into a nostalgic summer evening.

This amazing wedding was also featured over on the awesome “Elizabeth Anne Designsblog ~ so for more details from Natalie [and full vendor listing] hop on over to the feature there.
