We’re back this afternoon with a beautiful Northern Virginia engagement session from Carrie Holbo Photography [submitted via Two Bright Lights]. Yvonne & John (hey that rhymes!) met in the Air Force and are getting married later this year in Vegas (wooo!) but they wanted to have their engagement session near their home in Old Town Alexandria. It’s hard to tell that this shoot was in January – the light looks warm and inviting, and Yvonne & John don’t look cold at all!

The two of them are gorgeous and so in love and have quite the surprise proposal story to share! Congratulations Yvonne & John!

How they met:

John and I had a mutual friend who was trying to play match maker (and it worked) and told me about him and vise versa. We then found each other through her “friends” list on Facebook and friended each other.

At the time, I was on a 6 month deployment to Tampa Florida and had 1 month left before I returned to Virginia when John and I started communicating through e-mail. It only took a few days for me to realize that we had a lot in common and the conversations started flowing! After a few days of e-mails, we exchanged phone numbers and we moved on to text messages and phone conversations…we talked everyday after that! John and I made plans to meet for the first time in person the night I returned from Florida. We were both so excited and were counting down the days until then! I left Florida on Wednesday 8 June 2011 and arrived on Thursday the 9th and met him for dinner as soon as I arrived. We’ve been together ever since…

The proposal story:

It’s Christmas Day (25 Dec 2012) and John and I were on our way to San Francisco to visit his Mom, Sister Megan and her family. During our layover in Denver I realized the airline did not sit John and I together on the next flight to San Francisco. I asked the airline if it was a mistake and if they could sit us together, but the flight was full and there wasn’t anything they could do. As we were about to take-off, the flight attendant noticed that Chino’s (our dog) carrier was being blocked by something that was hindering it from going under the seat in front of me. She asked me if I was flying with anyone, and I told her I was and noted that they (the airline) separated us for some reason.

The flight attendant told me Chino would have to sit with John since his carrier did not fit under the seat. Now, not only was I separated from John, but Chino too :-(. I was alone, bored and missing them both so I decided to try and take a nap. I felt something heavy land on my lap, I open my eyes and it’s Chino and John is standing next to me in the aisle. All I can think to say is, “Babe, what are you doing? We’re gonna get in trouble, you can’t have him out of his carrier!”

I noticed he had a jewelry box in his hand and then I said, “What is that?” After that it gets a little blurry…John said he wanted Chino to be there for it and he got down on one knee in the aisle of the plane and said, “There’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you” (opens the box) “Will you marry me?” Me: “YES!!!” and the tears start flowing!!! We’re hugging and kissing and people around us start to whisper and figured out what had just happened.

The flight attendant came up and asked John, “Did you just do what I think you did?” John eventually went back to his seat and soon after the flight attendant announced over the intercom that this was the first time in her 18 year career that she’s had someone propose on the flight. Soon after I was being offered wine from the flight attendant and she told me to get my stuff and move to where John was sitting.

The lady sitting next to John caught on that he was the one who proposed to his girlfriend and we were separated on the flight, she was willing to trade seats with me so we could sit together! For the remainder of the flight I was on cloud nine (no pun intended)!! I was now sitting with my two favorite guys and engaged to my best friend!
