Happy Thursday Romancers! Another week is winding down and man has it been a busy one!! Tonight is our first rehearsal of 2013! I am so freakin’ excited for Amanda & Jason’s intimate wedding tomorrow [even with the dismal weather report – I don’t care!].

For this morning’s real DC wedding we have a gorgeous DIY, blue & green wedding from Photo LadyLove [submitted via Two Bright Lights]. Eva captured the beatiful nuptials of Anne & Jessica. Though they had been together for a long time, it took until DC legalized gay marriage for the two beautiful ladies to officially tie the knot.

They chose the All Souls Unitarian Church for their wedding ceremony & reception location because it was where the D.C. gay marriage law was signed by Mayor Fenty. They chose a garden-inspired color palette of blues & greens and used vintage details and painted wine bottles to decorate the space. Enjoy!

Anne & Jess’ love story:

Anne and Jessica met their freshman year at American University and quickly became best friends.

“We still are!”

Along the way, they fell in love. After graduating, they moved to New York for several years, where they got engaged.

“We proposed to each other while on an amazing anniversary trip to California wine country.” (Hence the wine bottles they decorated themselves.)

When they moved back to D.C., where marriage was legal, they decided to get married in the spring shortly after their 10-year anniversary.

In their own words on their wedding ceremony:

In addition to Joey and his sister Maria performing before the ceremony, their friends also performed Brandi Carlile’s “The Story.”

The church has three aisles. Anne and Jessica chose to walk down the two side aisles at the same time and come together at the front of the church. Anne’s sister was their maid of honor, Jessica’s brother their best man and his kids were the flower children. Anne’s brother and Jessica’s aunts also gave readings and Anne’s family friend Donna Egan https://www.facebook.com/EganArtStudio decorated the aisle and the reception hall with the help of Anne’s aunt Jean Butler, just the night before — and even the day of. Anne and Jessica decorated the bottles themselves and friends and family at one of their bridal showers in Hershey, Pa., all chipped in their time to gather and decorate the mason jars.

Anne’s family is Catholic and Jessica’s is Jewish, but the couple had been going to All Souls for several months before choosing it as the wedding venue.

“We really appreciate their message of social justice.”

On their color palette choice & processional song:

“Our colors have always been green and blue. There’s a line in ‘Your Song’ that says ‘you see I’ve forgotten if they’re green or they’re blue’ which we belted out to each other even in our dorm room.”

It helped that Jessica has green eyes and Anne has blue. They walked down to the aisle to an acoustic version of “Your Song” played by Anne’s cousin Joey Angelo.

In their own words, on their reception:

For the reception we’re going for a garden-like feel, hydrangeas in birch bark centerpieces, lots of lights strung across the hall, diy mason jar/bottle decorations filling in.

After the ceremony, everyone moved to the courtyard for drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and then the reception hall for dinner, dancing — and cake!

Even the beers were handpicked — Pilsner Urquell for their time studying abroad in Prague, Blue Point Toasted Lager for Jessica’s Long Island roots and Yuengling representing Anne’s PA crowd.

We’re both avid readers (big dorks ;) so we’re using books to identify the tables.

Our table will be The History of Love, a book we both read and loved, plus we feel the title is fitting since both of our parents and Anne’s grandmother will be at that table, so there’s a long history of love present.
