First – Happy Valentine’s Day Romancers!

Second – I have an AH-MAZING Maryland wedding to share with you today. Submitted by the Bride, Allison said she was a reader and graciously told me that Capitol Romance helped guide her vision into what her wedding became.

Holy hell. A compliment like that just sweeps me off my feet! But, enough about me. More about Allison & Eric- because holy hell people, their offbeat Maryland wedding is to.die.for.

Thanks to Faith Desired for the images.

About the couple:

Longtime friends who realized we were something more, Eric (IT systems administrator) and I (Allison, graphic designer), tied the knot on a crisp autumn evening in the 200 year old Montjoy barn located on the grounds of the 232 acre Howard County Conservancy in Woodstock, MD.

love that Allison put pictures of her cats on her bouquet!!

My bouquet was created by a local florist who used herbs and branches, and since, well, cats don’t travel, I created a ribbon attaching our pets photos so that they too could be with us.

All the juicy details on their wedding!

The Conservancy followed our hopes of making our wedding as green as possible. We wanted everything to be recyclable, compostable, upcycled or reused. For instance, we had friends, co-workers and family help collect used mason jars throughout our 3 year engagement. We upcycled the jars into lanterns which served as both decorations and favors.

We originally wanted to have the wedding at our home, but as that vision changed, we decided, rather to use elements from our wooded backyard. Acorns, branches, grasses, wood slices and an old deck were all used to assemble our vision.

Friends and family helped to decorate with all of the details, lined the barn with our handmade lanterns, set up a welcome station, built signs and helped to slice and dry wood for our centerpieces. The groom and I did most of the assembly ourselves. I’m a graphic designer, so I made all of the templates for tracing, etching, wood burning and painting. I also designed the invitations, illustrations and all of the printed pieces.

Our close friend Steve (also a philosopher) wrote and performed our ceremony and we included a Shel Silverstein poem in the ceremony!

Our recessional song was “Here Comes Your Man” by the Pixies

I LOVE Allison’s mismatched bridesmaids dresses!

Congratulations Allison & Eric! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing, offbeat Maryland wedding with us!

  1. I LOVE his face at the first look! THIS is why photographers push for pre-ceremony portraits- so many people hold back when they know they have 100+ pairs of eyes watching them :).

  2. Being there was even better – you could actually FEEL how in love they were that day. The little things Allison and Eric did were so them! It was truly ahhhmazing!

  3. Congratulations!!!
it looks like you had an amazing wedding. Thank you for sharing. The pictures are amazing
