Kicking off our Tuesday with a lovely Maryland wedding courtesy of ZADesignz [submitted via Two Bright Lights]. Shani and Jeff had a lovely outdoor wedding ceremony at the Mount Airy Mansion, in Upper Marlboro, MD. Her reception was very elegant, with some DIY touches, hand-making wedding details like the table numbers, favors, place cards, and napkin holders. Shani & Jeff chose a beautiful, light & summery color palette with pink and peach!

Shani & Jeff’s Pink & Peach Mount Airy Mansion Wedding in Maryland

The proposal:

We got engaged January 26, 2011.  I had an exam earlier that morning and Jeff was going to treat me to dinner to celebrate my months of studying.  I was rushing to meet him at his home so we could drive to the restaurant together.  I was worried we might be late for dinner.  I remember he was not rushing.  In fact he was standing still and smiling at me.  I remember saying, “Come onnnnn! Aren’t we going to be late?!”  He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  It was perfect.   We then enjoyed a romantic dinner at a poetry lounge followed by watching a play.

 About the Wedding:

Our wedding was held at Mt. Airy Mansion in Upper Marlboro, MD.  We chose this venue because both the mansion and the landscape epitomized the setting for a storybook wedding.  The secluded historic mansion is nestled in 1000 acres of woods.  Much of the beauty was provided by the natural greenery of shrubs, canopies of oak trees and the enchanting magic of weeping willows.

We exchanged our vows in a sunken garden.

really LOVING Shani’s soft vintage curls

More on their beautiful pink & peach wedding reception:

The reception was held in the mansion’s banquet hall.  The room featured  a glass enclosed atrium which allowed the outdoor feeling from the ceremony to be brought inside.  Paintings, mirrors, lamps and other antique furniture in various rooms of the mansion provided a vintage feel.  Our color theme was peaches and cream with flourishes of pink.  We chose those colors to create a mood that was ethereal, soft, and romantic.

a sweet summer custom wedding cocktail!

Their DIY wedding projects:

Our wedding also featured many DIY crafts including the menus, program basket, escort cards, card box, table numbers and ceremony ribbons.

Shani tells us about all their families’ involvement in the day – this is always one of my FAVORITE things to ask couples … and of course, favorite answers to read:

Family was very involved in bringing our wedding day dream to life.  Jeff’s uncle was our officiant, and another one of his uncles was our videographer.

Jeff’s mother, an interior decorator, designed the banquet table decoration and my rhinestone bridal belt.

My cousin did the day of wedding coordination.   Both my grandfather and father walked me down the aisle. We payed tribute to our deceased grandparents by featuring 8X10 portraits of them at the entrance to the reception hall.

I love that Shani had both her father AND her grandfather walk her down the aisle! What a unique, but special detail!

The continued the involvement of their families and heritage into their wedding music too!

My family is from St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands and Panama.  Jeff’s family is from North Carolina.  We chose to incorporate our cultures into the wedding through music.  We danced the night away to salsa, soca, calypso, and old school R&B.

It was the most amazing day I’ve ever had.

Congratulations Shani & Jeff! Thank you for sharing your beautiful wedding story with us today! A special thanks again to ZADesignz and Two Bright Lights for making this Maryland wedding feature possible!
