Selecting Your Dream Dress: Thinking Beyond the Norm

I am so happy to announce today that we will be having a guest blogger from Kate Linde Bridal [a local bridal gown distributor] sharing some advice on wedding dresses over the next few weeks. All the guest posts will be on Thursdays from here on out!

Kate Linde Bridal is a DC/MD based a wholesale bridal gown distributor that connects Eastern wedding fashion to Western markets and Kate is just about to introduce her Eastern European gowns for the first time in the US – starting in DC! Her latest new line is from famed Ukranian designer Slanovskiy.

Selecting your Dream Dress: Thinking beyond the Norm

Choosing a bridal gown is an important decision – one of the first that brides make during their planning journey. You have big expectations, wanting to feel confident and beautiful. Be prepared to make this decision by keeping the following in mind:

Consider the location of your ceremony and the potential conditions on the wedding day.

While “practical” and “wedding” aren’t always used in the same sentence, it would be wise to consider where you are getting married and how your gown will play a role in your comfort and safety. Ball gowns with mounds of tulle are not necessarily ideal in fields full of tall grasses. Long trains can be hard to manage on the beach. Conservative churches have requirements that must be observed. Knowing that you cannot wear a sleeveless dress without a covering may influence your ultimate choice. Take a moment and think practically before you shop.

Take your time and listen to your instincts.

Gown selection involves a lot of emotions. Start with your excitement about your wedding and of the close friends and family who are helping you shop. Add to that your unique fashion sense, self-image, and the expert input of the bridal consultant helping you sort through the options.  If you’re not totally convinced that what you see is what you want, take a break and or …

Try on many different styles.

We often have a preconceived idea of what will look best on us, but we also don’t wear wedding gowns every day. Keep an open mind and try on many different styles until you identify the one that really does look best on you. Many recent brides can attest to being surprised that their perfect gown wasn’t even one they planned to try on at first.

Gown shopping is supposed to be fun!  Be prepared and whatever you do, don’t forget to enjoy yourself!

Kate Linde Bridal connects Eastern European designers with style savvy American brides, as a wholesale distributor of ready-to-wear wedding gowns.  Gowns from each collection are hand-made to order and boast a corset-style design that flatters most shapes and sizes.
